Many things are sacrificed by Eiichiro Oda in 20 years of making One Piece, and one of them is a promise with his wife, Chiaki Inaba, whom he married in 2004.

In an interview back in 2019, Oda stated that he promised to his wife to finish One Piece in 10 years back in 2004, and after the series’ done, they promised to travel the world. Should Oda finished One Piece in 2014, but he didn’t.

With this, Oda broke the promise he made with his wife to finish his work. Until 2020, One Piece is still going, and probably there are a few years left until Oda finishes One Piece. Oda stated that he didn’t want to disappoint One Piece fans with all the secrets in the series. Thumbs up to Oda who sacrificed his personal life for One Piece.
