Anime is one of the most interesting forms of entertainment for us to watch. The reason is, anime presents a variety of cool stories with a huge number of episodes. Talking about anime, there are several anime that have qualified quality for us to watch even though the status of this anime is a classic anime.
In the 80s, anime was able to present extraordinary stories for us to enjoy. So what anime in the 80's had extraordinary quality? Curious about the full list? Let's discuss it one by one.
Vampire D Hunter
While it may not be the most technically impressive or well-written movie of its era, it's impossible to deny that the 1985 adaptation of Vampire D Hunter had an important role in the survival of anime and pop culture today.
Based on the novel of the same name by veteran writer Hideyuki Kikuchi, this movie is the first adaptation of the Vampire D Hunter project. Often cited as one of the first successful anime movies to target over 18 demographics in Japan, it helped to popularize both the source material and the dark fantasy genre as a whole.
Hellsing, Castlevania, and Vampire Knight are anime series inspired by this series.
Robot Carnival
Robot Carnival is one of the great anime stories. It is an anthology movie, directed by a long list of industry geniuses including director Yasuomi Umetsu and director Akira Katsuhiro Otomo. Each segment of the movie has its own little story, from the story of a young girl who falls in love with an amusement park attendant dressed as a robot, to the story of the Frankenstein monster.
Most of the segments don't feature voice acting and feature some great soundtracks. Many of the creators involved in this project were eventually able to create another project that was quite successful afterward.
Kiki's Delivery Service
Kiki's Delivery Service is directed, produced, and written by Hayao Miyazaki. It was one of the most successful Studio Ghibli movies at the time of its release. It was also the first movie to be translated into English and released by Walt Disney Pictures, following the start of a 15-year distribution partnership with Studio Ghibli.
Miyazaki's screenplay is very different from the original novel because Eiko Kadono, the original author, had problems that the project was almost cancelled. Miyazaki himself actually visited her house and begged her to visit the studio and finally Kadono gave in and allowed this project to continue.
Akira
Akira is one of the most extraordinary and popular anime series. The series is often considered one of the best animated movies ever made, even by people who don't even know what anime is.
The movie was so popular when it was originally released in 1988, earning a spot as the sixth highest-grossing Japanese movie of the year. It later became very popular all over the world. Even the 2020 4K re-release in theaters catapulted it to number three at the UK box office due to its popularity.
Angel’s Egg
Angel's Egg is one of the most interesting anime in terms of plot. This anime only includes a little dialogue and context given to the viewer. The cool thing is, this anime is still able to guide the audience to understand the plot.
The animation is smooth, showing long, drawn-out scenes without cutting them off. This anime combined with a powerful soundtrack and an indulgent sound. Watching this anime will be a unique experience because of the awesome quality it presents.
