Having only one appearance in GTA V, Trevor’s mother, Mrs. Philips, raises more questions than answers about her mysterious existence. After completing all of the main missions in GTA V and if Trevor is spared by Franklin, you’ll find a cutscene where Trevor finds his mother visiting his trailer house.

In the cutscene, Mrs. Philips expresses her disappointment with Trevor as he didn’t visit her when she’s in prison. Trevor never even sent her a letter to Mrs. Philips.

Shortly thereafter, Mrs. Philips complains about her pain and asks Trevor to get a truckload of a certain drug called Deludamol. Yet when Trevor returns, his mother disappears without any message.

The sudden arrival and disappearance of Mrs. Philips have become a mystery. Many fans believe that Mrs. Philips in the cutscene is just Trevor’s hallucination. It’s based on Trevor’s guilt, who was accused by many of killing his own mother since he often loses control of his temper.

However, despite all of the accusations and slanders aimed at Trevor regarding his mother, there’s evidence that proves him otherwise, which leads to the possibility that Mrs. Philips is actually still alive, and what Trevor saw wasn’t just a hallucination.

Evidence 1: A LifeInvader Post

Before the cutscene, there’s no important post on Trevor’s LifeInvader page. Yet after meeting his mother, Ron Jakowski, Trevor’s best friend in Sandy Shores, posted on Trevor’s LifeInvader page that reads: 

“Ain't you gonna introduce me to your mom?”

This particular LifeInvader post should be enough to rebut the possibility that Trevor was hallucinating, as Ron’s also aware of Mrs. Phillips’ existence.

Evidence 2: There’s No Filter

In GTA V, Rockstar always features a special filter/effect when the protagonists are in a certain “state”. Either when they’re drunk, consuming drugs, etc.

Rockstar features this filter in certain situations to help players to differentiate what’s real and what’s just in the character’s mind.

During the said cutscene, there’s no filter applied. In other words, what happened in Trevor’s trailer home was real and not a hallucination.

Unlike the cutscene where Michael hallucinates being kidnapped by the aliens on the mission "Somebody Say Yoga?", or when he’s hallucinating and fights clowns during "Grass Roots".

Evidence 3: Trevor Loves His Mother Dearly

From various conversations in GTA V, Trevor often shows some indications that he highly respects and has a strong bond with his mother. You can see when someone calls him "Motherf***er", he’ll lose his mind and even kill that person.

One of the victims was Johnny Klebitz, who’s killed by Trevor after he called him "Motherf***er", as well as a redneck in Sandy Shores who triggered Trevor’s rampage. As a result, Trevor went on a rage and killed all of the rednecks in the area.

In addition to that, in Trevor’s first mission “Mr. Philips”, Trevor tells Wade to respect women more, especially mothers.

Evidence 4: A Sensitive Psychopath

One of the best love stories in GTA V is the romance between Trevor and Patricia Madrazo. Despite its unusual beginning -- with Trevor kidnapping Patricia -- we’re shown a sensitive side of Trevor from this story.

After spending some time with Patricia, Trevor finally has to return Patricia to her husband, Martin Madrazo. On their way to Martin’s house, Trevor bursts into tears, saying:

“For some reason, everyone I love abandons me”

It’s undeniable that Trevor’s mental illness turned him into a psychopath. Yet, on the other hand, he’s highly sensitive and cares deeply for the people he loves.

You can see how he treats Patricia Madrazo, his affection towards Michael’s children, Jimmy and Tracey, and his loyalty to his friends. Even if you choose to end Michael, when Franklin asks Trevor to join him, Trevor refuses as he knows what it feels like to be betrayed by the ones he loves.

Seeing his sensitive side towards his loved ones, it seems impossible for Trevor to kill his own mother.

How Could Mrs. Philips Know Trevor’s Whereabouts?

Throughout the storyline in GTA V, the origins of Mrs. Philips is very much a mystery. There’s no definite answer as to how Mrs. Philips could know where Trevor lives. There is, however, one plausible theory to answer this question.

The story began when Michael met with his future wife, Amanda, in the Midwest, near North Yankton and Carcer City, where Michael was born. Trevor, on the other hand, was born and raised in Canada with his mother, which is north of the Midwest.

Based on the conversation between Trevor and Wade on their way to Los Santos, Trevor revealed that Michael fell in love with Amanda, who was a stripper at the time. On the other hand, Mrs. Philips was also a stripper.

Somehow, Amanda knew Trevor’s mother. It can be deduced from an exchange between Amanda and Trevor:

“How's your mom, Trevor? I miss her.”

In San Andreas, Amanda is probably the only character who knows about Mrs. Philips. Therefore, it doesn’t rule out the possibility that Mrs. Philips knows where Trevor lives from Amanda. Since after all, Trevor’s mother only makes a single appearance in the last Stranger & Freaks mission, long after Trevor’s reunion with the De Santas.

Fun Fact

Mrs. Philips is the only character in GTA V whose voice actor isn’t featured in the credits. Mrs. Philips is voiced by a British former actress, who is also the mother of the two founders of Rockstar, Sam & Dan Houser.
