Shinji Shimizu, the first director of the One Piece anime, said that he suggested Oda approve a movie whose story focused on Shanks several times. Oda kept refusing it because he only wanted to show Shanks only in the manga.

Then, because 2022 is the anniversary of the 25th anniversary of the One Piece manga, Oda agreed to have Shanks in the One Piece movie on the condition that Luffy must also be involved, plus the presence of a female main character. Unlike Stampede, this will most likely become canon because of Shanks' existence.

Shimizu also suggested including Shanks in the Strong World, but Oda once again refused. This can be seen from Shanks’ Strong World design, as well as the merchandise. What surprises will be shown in One Piece: Red? Just wait for the premiere date is August 2022!
