Ever since the release of the first episode of Attack on Titan: Final Season, the series has regained its popularity and become the talking point within the anime community. Eren Yeager is the main character and one of the fan-favorites. And, there are some fascinating facts about the main character of Attack on Titan that you probably didn’t know. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

1. The User of More Than One Titan Power

As we already know, Eren possesses more than one Titan Power. Eren initially had two Titan Powers -- the Attack Titan and the Founding Titan. After he and his comrades invaded Marley, Eren also obtained another Titan Power, the War Hammer Titan, which allows him to materialize various weapons and structures from its hardened flesh.

Of the many Titan Powers he possesses, Eren rarely uses the Founding Titan as he needs to meet some requirements to channel this power.

2. His Father Was Also a Titan

The previous holder of the Attack Titan power was Grisha Yeager, Eren’s father. Unlike Eren’s Titan, Grisha’s Titan was 15 meters tall with a bulkier upper body compared to its limbs.

His mouth was covered in his own flesh, had long black hair, with beard and chest hair.

3. He’s More Composed After the Coup

Eren was initially a stubborn, hot-headed, and impatient young man. But after the real noble family, the Reiss descendant took over the empire -- with Historia Reiss becoming the queen, we learned that Eren started to become more calm and collected.

4. Able to See the Future with His Attack Titan Power

Each of the Nine Titans comes with its own unique power. For the Attack Titan, the user has the ability to access the memory of the things that happen in the future to the successor. In other words, Eren is able to know the future that awaits him.

Therefore, in the third season of Attack on Titan, Eren Kruger, the holder of the Attack Titan power before Grisha, mentioned Mikasa and Armin although they’re hadn’t even born back then.

5. Required a Contact with a Royal Blood to Trigger His Founding Titan Powers

The Founding Titan is a Titan Power that can only be passed down within the royal descendants of the Fritz and Reiss families. The Founding Titan has the power to manipulate the memories of the Eldians as well as the power to control Pure Titans.

Although Eren gained the Founding Titan Power, he’s unable to use the power freely as he’s not of royal blood himself.

However, Eren can still use the Founding Titan power by coming in contact with a descendant of the royal family. Just like when we saw Eren got this power activated in the second season by coming in contact with Dina Fritz’s Titan -- the Smiling Titan.

6. Knowing the Future Leads to Him Getting Depressed

As mentioned above, Eren is able to learn about the things that will happen in the future, thanks to the power of the Attack Titan. Eren knows the best way to end the conflict between Eldia and Marley, and he’s seen the deaths of the people closest to him. Surely this has made him lose hope as there’s no other way for him to achieve his goal.

7. Influenced His Father to Wipe Out Most of the Reiss Family

As it turns out, the mastermind who incited Grisha Yeager to steal the Founding Titan and kill most of the Reiss family was actually Eren who reached out to Grisha in their “shared memories”. When Grisha was hesitant to steal the Founding Titan, Eren reminded him of his mission and told him to finish what he started.

8. Has a Complicated Relationship with Mikasa

Eren has a quite complex relationship with Mikasa. Eren often acts rude, standoffish to Mikasa, although Mikasa always seems to have great care towards him. Eren only shows his concern for Mikasa whenever she’s hurt or in danger. Despite his acts, they actually love each other.

9. Mikasa’s True Love

Mikasa does love Eren in a romantic way -- not just as an adoptive sibling would. It’s often been shown that she actually has romantic feelings towards Eren.

There are so many reasons why she has such feelings for Eren, from the moment Eren saved her life when she was 9, Eren has been the closest person Mikasa ever had.

Another reason is that since Eren saved her, they’ve been living together and developed a bond as a family.

In Season 2 of Attack on Titan, there are lots of romantic moments involving Mikasa and Eren. Mikasa thanked him for always looking after her, showing her how to carry on with her life, and for putting his scarf around her neck.

These simple gestures shown by Eren have made Mikasa develop feelings towards him.

10. Mikasa Devotes Her Life for Eren

Ever since Eren saved Mikasa and welcomed her into his family, Eren has become the main source of power for her. Since Eren is her only remaining “family”, she’s willing to do anything to ensure his safety, pledging that she will follow wherever he goes as her only wish is to always be by his side.

11. His Hair Was Intentionally Made Black to Make the Drawing Process Easier

There’s actually a reason why Eren’s hair was made black. Isayama decided to color his hair black as Eren is a fiery character – and it’s easier to draw him in motion that way.

12. The Origin of His Name

The name Eren derives from a Turkish word, which means “he who has attained maturity and wisdom”. The word Eren can also mean “saint”. In German, Eren means honor. Isayama has revealed the reason why he chose Eren as the name of the character is that the name sounds feminine, which would make it easier for the viewers to remember this character.

As for his last name, Yeager is an English form of the German word “Jäger,” which means hunter.

13. The VA, Yuki Kaji, Often Plays MCs in Other Anime!

If you often watch anime series, chances are, you’re already familiar with the seiyuu, Yuki Kaji. Yup, Yuki Kaji is a seiyuu who often does the voice works of numerous iconic characters from popular anime series.

He voices Todoroki Shoto in Boku no Hero Academia, Meliodas and Zeldris in Nanatsu no Taizai, Hyodou Issei in High School DxD, among other characters.

14. Yuki Kaji Once Lost His Voice After Voicing Eren Yeager

On his Twitter, Yuki Kaji wrote “I couldn’t imagine how to do (this episode). When I didn’t know what to do. It’s an unimaginable time what happened. It was also the time when I played Eren and I was almost dead in my voice."

15. He Became a ‘Villain’ to Save His Friends

When he’s in the Path, Eren reveals his true intention of becoming the evil threat to humankind. As it turns out, it’s because Eren wants his friends to kill him and be considered heroes, as well as join forces with other nations outside Paradis.

He also reveals that if he dies (permanently), it will stop the continuation of the Titan Powers, which will also help other Eldians who have been turned into Mindless Titans to revert back to their human forms.
