Black is an FPS game released on February 24, 2006, and became the most popular game back in PlayStation 2 era. Many FPS gamers who started playing an FPS genre, some of them started with this one. It was developed by Criterion Games and under the surveillance of Electronic Arts. According to vgchartz.com, Black was sold for 1,5 million copies worldwide.

Creating a solid FPS game and received many praises from gamers was not as easy as flipping one’s hand, because the developer must undergo various experiments and the ambitious development process. Before developing Black, Criterion didn’t have any experience in creating an FPS game before and must take inspiration from Burnout. Progress didn’t betray results, as Black managed to win Best Art and Sound Develop Awards in 2006 and three nominations at BAFTA Awards 2006.
3. The Game’s Advertisement Once Aired on MTV
If you grew up in the 2000s, you surely once saw MTV (Music Television) channel, right? This TV channel offered music-related content from inside and outside the country. It turned out that it served as the medium for Electronic Arts to promote the game. The success of Black made Electronic Arts decided to launch a sequel. Criterion once had a plan to develop Black 2, but this plan was scrapped due to differences with Electronic Arts.

Running out of options, some of the team members who developed Black, created a spiritual successor titled Bodycount. Unfortunately, the game developed by Codemasters was considered a failure among fans.
