Gyomei is one of ten orphans. They all live in an orphanage where he is the oldest of them. He raised them all like an older brother. He raised them in a temple. The temple is often haunted by demons, and as an older brother, he always protects others from demonic threats.

As seen during his conversation with Kokushibo about the Demon Slayer Mark, Gyomei was able to correctly tell that Kokushibo was lying by detecting the slightest change in his body's voice. Gyomei noted that he heard Kokushibo tremble after revealing his ruse.
