Attack on Titan chapter 139, the final chapter of the series, answers everything from what happened in the story, including the relationship of Eren and Mikasa. We know that Eren and Mikasa knew each other since childhood. Both of their parents knew each other too. But because of a tragic event, Mikasa lived with the Yeager family.

1. Eren Saved Mikasa

Mikasa is a descendant of the Ackerman clan and an Asian. As the last Asian, Mikasa and her mother become a target of human trafficking. Her parents died because of bandits who wanted to kidnap and sell Mikasa.

Eren arrived and killed two of the bandits. Mikasa activates her Ackerman ability and killed the third bandit, avenging her parents’ death. Grisha then adopted Mikasa. Eren and Mikasa grew up like siblings.

2. Mikasa Likes Eren But Didn’t Realize Her Feeling

After the bloody event in Mikasa’s home, the girl slowly develops a feeling for Eren. sadly the girl thought it was a familial love, not a romantic feeling.

Eren once asked Mikasa about her feeling. Mikasa then answered that she loves Eren like a family. Eren was disappointed.

You can see the few occasion where it was obvious. Like when Mikasa was jealous when spotting Eren and Historia together. Mikasa also hated Levi because the captain of the Survey Corps kicked and punched Eren. Mikasa also repeatedly thank Eren when the Survey Corps was surrounded by titans.

3. Ackerman Clan’s Nature and Identity

The Ackerman clan was the result of an experiment when combining Subjects of Ymir with Titan knowledge. The experiment creates human far stronger than a regular normal human. That was why the Eldian royalty turned them into royal guards.

Because of Ackerman’s loyalty to the Eldian royal family, they are considered the salve of the kingdom who had no freedom and emotion.

Eren once said that Mikasa wanting to sacrifice herself for Eren is not because of her pure feeling, but because of her nature as an Ackerman. Since they were young, Mikasa saw Eren as the host that she had to protect.

The fact shocked Mikasa, not to mention it was when Eren was on his evil phase.

4. Mikasa Killed Eren

In Attack on Titan chapter 138, the battle between Eren versus Mikasa, Armin, and Levi reached its climax. Colossal Titan Armin block and hold Titan Eren, while Mikasa and Levi created space to kill Eren.

Eren was not on the nape but inside the mouth. Mikasa entered the mouth, beheads, and kissed Eren.

It proves that Mikasa loves Eren. but her loved ends tragically because she has to kill the person she loves to save mankind from extinction.

5. The Love Eachother

Many fans think that Eren didn’t love Mikasa. But Eren’s feelings for Mikasa is revealed in Attack on Titan chapter 139.

Armin asked “How about you bluntly turning down Mikasa’s feeling for you? Did you think you could get away with simply saying “forget me” to Mikasa?”

Eren answered “I don’t want that, I don’t want her to find another guy. I want her to have feelings only for me, Even after I die I want her to hold me in her heart for a long time!”

We now know from the exchange that Eren loves Mikasa.
