1. Introduction of Joy Boy

Although Joy Boy is a very important character, he was only introduced after the time skip. He was first mentioned by Nico Robin on Fishman Island after finding his message in the Sea Forest. More precisely, Joy Boy was first mentioned in chapter 628.

In the anime, Joy Boy was introduced earlier, namely in episode 548. The reason is that the anime runs a little faster than the manga until the Dressrosa arc.

2. His Relationship with the Fishman Island

Joy Boy is told to have a relationship with Fishman Island during the Void Century, to be exact 800 years ago in the world of One Piece. Joy Boy had a dream to unite fishmen and humans so that they can coexist on the surface. But for some reason, he failed to do so.

Joy Boy then wrote an apology on the poneglyphs that were kept on Fishman Island until it was found by Robin.

3. His Treasure

According to the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, Joy Boy was a great man with great wealth. Roger called it a great treasure even though he didn't really know what it looked like.

That said, Joy Boy was the owner of the treasure Roger found in Laugh Tale, One Piece. What the shape of One Piece is, of course, is unknown until now. It is also unknown why Roger kept it in Laugh Tale.

4. Once Sailed to the Last Island

Generally, people might think that only Roger and his crew ever set foot on the last island, Laugh Tale. This was revealed in chapter 967 when Roger said that Joy Boy had been on the island 800 years before. The point is, Joy Boy was someone who has been in Laugh Tale besides Roger.

5. A Reincarnation of Joy Boy?

Even though Joy Boy lived 800 to 900 years ago (from his current time in One Piece), many fans believe that he might come back to life. In Oden's flashback, it is explained that Joy Boy will return 20 years later. At the end of the Wano arc, fans increasingly believe that Luffy is the reincarnation of Joy Boy.

6. Joy Boy and Poseidon

Because Joy Boy was quite close to the fishmen on Fishman Island, he had a good relationship with Poseidon. Poseidon is one of the three ancient weapons in One Piece that is reborn after hundreds of years, which is now Shirahoshi.

7. Joy Boy's Age

Joy Boy's age is still unknown until now, but there are several things that can be confirmed. Joy Boy is known to have existed 900 years ago in the world of One Piece. The poneglyphs were created by the Kozuki clan about 800 years ago. Therefore, if Joy Boy really apologized by writing it on the poneglyph, then his age can be ascertained to be around 100 years old when he was alive.

If true, then it could be that Joy Boy is a giant. This is because the average lifespan of these breeds is more than 100 years. Interestingly, there are ordinary humans up to 140 years old like Kureha.

8. Joy Boy and a Straw Hat

In the Reverie arc, a surprising fact is revealed from the World Government. The tallest of them turned out to be not the Gorosei, but Im-sama. Im-sama is the king of the world who has a giant straw hat. The hat is similar to the one used by Roger and also what Luffy is currently wearing.

9. Joy Boy's Enemies

According to the information that Eiichiro Oda mentioned directly, Joy Boy fought against the 20 kingdoms that formed the World Government at that time, and Joy Boy lost the fight. Then, he and his comrades including the Kozuki clan wrote inscriptions on the poneglyphs.

The cause of Joy Boy's death is not explained. What is clear is that many believe that Joy Boy might be born again. It is not yet certain whether Luffy is Joy Boy's reincarnation or not.

10. Joy Boy and Wano

After finding One Piece in Laugh Tale, for some reason, Oden knew that Joy Boy would return in 20 years. He also told this to his followers. If this is true, then it is very likely that Luffy is the reincarnation of Joy Boy who was already destined to go to Wano.

Kin'emon and his friends may have realized this because he always considered Luffy as their savior. But it's still not certain if Luffy is Joy Boy. Just wait for Oda to reveal the facts later!
