After Gyutaro and Daki were defeated by Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Nezuko, and Tengen Uzui in the Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc, the top six-ranked Moon Demon positions were temporarily vacant, until it was replaced by Kaigaku. Kaigaku is one of the supporting antagonist characters in the manga series Kimetsu No Yaiba or Demon Slayer. Even though it hasn't been introduced in the anime yet, the fact that Kaigaku is much anticipated by fans can't be denied anymore.
Because he is quite an interesting character and has a relationship with another demon slayer character, Zenitsu Agatsuma because he appeared in Zenitsu's flashback some time ago. However, it will be introduced in more detail towards the end of the Demon Slayer plot. Facts About Kaigaku in Demon Slayer
1. One of Gyomei's Pupils
Since childhood, Kaigaku was an orphan, and he was later raised by Gyomei Himejima at his shrine. Since childhood, Kaigaku has been known as a problem child, until one day he was caught stealing the temple's money and was eventually expelled from the temple. When he was expelled and on his journey, Kaigaku met a demon, to save his life he finally told the location of the temple that had thrown him away to the demon as a form of revenge until finally, the demon ate the children in the temple while he fled.
2. Also Jigoro Kuwajima's Ex-Mentee
Because a mistake made by Kaigaku made him have to end up in prison, he was then saved by Jigoro Kuwajima who was a former pillar of lightning. Since then, together with Zenitsu, Jigoro trained them to use lightning breathing in the hope that Kaigaku and Zenitsu can become his successors. But in the Hashira Training Arc, bad news about Kaigaku turning into a demon.
3. Appointed to be an Upper Moon Demon
When Kaigaku became a demon hunter, he once faced Kukoshibo, then he realized that his strength at that time could not beat the strongest top-ranking demon. Kaigaku finally begged Kukoshibo to save his life, finally, Kukoshibo turned himself into a demon. In the end, Kaigaku became stronger and succeeded in replacing Gyutaro and Daki because of his extraordinary strength.
4. A Demon Who Uses a Breathing Technique
As a former demon hunter, Kaigaku is the second demon after Kukoshibo to use breathing techniques in battle. Even though he has turned into a demon, Kaigaku still uses the breathing technique he learned from his mentor. Only, he cultivated his lightning breathing technique which was strengthened by the demon blood art. After turning himself into a demon, Kaigaku even obtained the demon blood art technique called Electrokinesis which is a stronger version of his usual lightning breathing. With this power, Kaigaku can manipulate lightning and electricity from the flesh and blood that is in his body.
5. Fights with a Sword
Not only still using breathing techniques, Kaigaku until he becomes a demon still uses the nichirin sword to fight. It's just that Kaigaku's nichirin sword has gotten stronger because of the modifications made with his demon blood. But Kaigaku's nichirin sword is not exactly the same as the original form he had before. This sword can be an intermediary for the breathing technique that Kaigaku uses to circulate his blood to issue his lightning breathing technique. If you notice, most sword users will keep their swords on their waist, but Kaigaku keeps his sword on his back.

6. Doesn't Master the First Form of Lighting Breathing Technique
When compared to Zenitsu, Kaigaku does have abilities that are above Zenitsu, especially when he was still Jigoro's student, he could always learn the lightning breathing technique that was taught well. It's just that Kaigaku has one weakness, namely he can't master the first stance of the lightning breathing technique, namely Thunderclap and Flash. For some reason, even though Kaigaku excelled in mastering the other five Lightning Breathing techniques, Kaigaku had great difficulty mastering this breathing technique. Even though it was the most basic of Lightning Breathing, this made the other five techniques not very useful since he didn't know the basics.
7. Was Appointed to be the Successor of Lighting Pillar
Recognized for his ability to fight, Kaigaku was appointed to become the successor to the most powerful pillar of lightning. However, due to various unfortunate events that are self-inflicted, Kaigaku believes that the most worthy of respect in the world is the strength and ability to survive. He did have great potential to replace Jigoro Kuwajima to become the pillar of lightning at that time, moreover, his abilities were superior to Zenitsu. But unfortunately, he chose the wrong path to determine his destiny.
8. Responsibles for Jigoro's Death
Much like Kukoshibo, Kaigaku lived his life as a demon slayer traitor who eventually turned to the devil's side. Because of this action, Jigoro Kuwajima as his teacher felt responsible, Jigoro finally decided to commit seppuku, namely the act of cutting off his belly because of Kaigaku's action. Jigoro felt embarrassed and lost interest in moving on with his life after learning the news.
9. Defeated by His Junior
Actually, this one fact could be a spoiler for those of you who haven't read the manga. In the massive battle between the Demon Slayer Corps against Muzan and the remaining Twelve Kizukis, Zenitsu and Kaigaku meet each other in a deadly battle. This is based on a sense of revenge for each of them, where Zenitsu is determined to be able to avenge the death of his teacher, Kaigaku, with his ego wanting to prove that he is far superior to Zenitsu.
10. Voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya
Since its appearance in the first season of Demon Slayer, Kaigaku has yet to appear again. Kaigaku is expected to be present in the anime when it enters the Infinity Castle Arc. Even though he only appeared briefly, the voice actor who voiced Kaigaku caught the attention of fans, because his voice was filled by Yoshimasa Hosoya who also voiced Doppo Kunikida in Bungou Stray Dogs and Reiner Braun in Attack on Titan: The Final Season. Fans are looking forward to Hosoya's return to voice Kaigaku in the upcoming Demon Slayer anime adaptation.
