Hanji and the squad didn’t manage to capture the Titan, yet they found a notebook written by a dead soldier named Ilse Langnar, which contains important info about the Titans.

In Season 3 of Shingeki no Kyojin, Eren Yeager has learned a secret that all Titans were originally humans. As it turns out, Hanji Zoe actually knew about it, long before Eren. Hanji found out about this from reading Ilse Langnar’s notebook, in Shingeki no Kyojin’s OVA.
During their expedition in the OVA, Hanji stumbles upon a notebook left by a dead soldier. The notebook mentions a Titan who can speak. The Titan said, “People of Ymir” before biting off Ilse’s head and placed her body inside a tree hollow.
Hanji had little to no knowledge about the Titans’ background before they came across the notebook. But soon after that, they found out that Titans were once humans.
5. One of the Most Popular Characters in Attack on Titan

In Shingeki no Kyojin Final Season, Hanji immediately develops a true friendship with Onyankopon due to their shared trust and curiosity. Over the years, the two of them have developed a good relationship and often work together to improve the technology on Paradis Island.

The background of the mad scientist is still very much a mystery, including their actual age. However, Isayama once said that Hanji Zoe is slightly younger than Levi, which means they’re probably in their early 30s.
