The Apothecary Diaries anime is an adaptation of the Japanese light novel or web novel series by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. The novel was first published online in 2011 on the user-generated novel publishing site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. In the following year, this novel was published by Shufunotomo in one volume. Then, it was made into a light novel series in 2014.

Furthermore, this light novel was adapted into two manga series in 2017, the first published by Square Enix in Monthly Big Gangan, and another published by Shogakukan in Monthly Sunday Gene-X.
