Naofumi is urged to get creative as a Shield Hero since he’s not allowed to wield any real weapon. He can still attack using his fist, yet it’s not that effective.

Although Naofumi cannot deliver a significant attack with his shield, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Naofumi can feed the remains of his opponents for his shield. Despite his indifferent demeanor, he always tries to be the fatherly figure for his party members. He can’t see Raphtalia as any other than his own daughter. When Filo transformed, he also looked at her the same way.

Over time, Naofumi teaches Raphtalia and Filo how to survive on their own, just like what a father would do to their children.

7. He Can’t Get Drunk

One of the weird things about Naofumi is that he possesses an incredible tolerance toward alcohol. This also reflects on his previous life — drinking alcohol has little effect on him. 8. He Wasn’t Supposed to be Summoned to Melromarc Castle

The Four Heroes exist to protect the entire world to which Naofumi was teleported. But strangely enough, they were all gathered at Melromarc Castle, even though there were so many other kingdoms in that world.

Initially, the Shield Hero was supposed to be summoned by the Siltvelt Kingdom, which was home to the demi-human race. In that land, the Shield Hero is highly revered as the previous Shield Hero treated them very well in the past.

9. His Favorite Food is Rucolu Fruits

Rucolu fruits are commonly used to make alcoholic drinks in that world. Naofumi’s love for fruit is well-known and has become his identity.

10. Has a Better Personality in the Anime

Naofumi is a character whose personality gets better in every subsequent adaptation of the series. In both the web and light novel, we can learn that Naofumi doesn’t really strike as a good person. Whereas in the manga, he’s depicted as a far more positive person and he strikes as someone who deserves sympathy.

In the anime adaptation, Naofumi changes from a person who supports the idea of killing the King and Malty Melromarc to becoming someone who can’t see them being killed.
