The most popular anime series based on Hiromu Arakawa's manga titled Fullmetal Alchemist takes us to a world of steampunk featuring high-tech prosthetic limbs, world domination plots, powerful alchemy, and fantasy action, all set in the Edwardian era. The series, which was adapted into a live-action film and is also broadcast on Netflix, features two brothers named Edward and Alphonse Elric on an adventure in an attempt to restore their bodies, but they are soon caught up in a sinister plot that puts the safety of the entire world at stake. Fortunately, Ed and Al have many military friends, and the leaders among them are Roy Mustang and his trusted lieutenant, Riza Hawkeye.

Riza Hawkeye was not an alchemist, but she was a formidable and loyal warrior who could take over any situation. Often, Roy sees her as a good partner, and for good reason. What should we know about Lieutenant Hawkeye? Here are 6 things you might not know about Riza Hawkeye.

1. His last name is taken from the name of the fighter plane

Like most of the characters in the Fullmetal Alchemist series, Riza Hawkeye got her last name from a military vehicle. In this case, its last name is taken from the Grumman E-2 Hawkeye AEW, a propeller plane with a large sensor disk on its back.

As a bonus, "Hawkeye" is a great name for a sniper like her, as Hawks or eagles and other birds of prey have an excellent telescopic vision for spotting prey from afar. That kind of sight is a must if Riza Hawkeye is a sniper.

2. Her name is also related to the name of her partner

The man who became Riza Hawkeye's partner was none other than Colonel Roy Mustang. What's that got to do with Hawkeye? Well, officially, Roy was the boss, but they would probably have a relationship that was more than that.

It was hinted many times that Riza and Roy were meant to be together, and fans thought so too. The pair of popular anime characters have nicknames taken from the names of the two characters, and this pair of Roy and Riza is known as Roai. The word "ai" comes from the word Hawkeye, but the word "ai" is also a Japanese word meaning love.

3. She will defy orders from her superiors if she is under pressure

This is what makes Riza Hawkeye such a dynamic character and fun to watch. He prioritized duty and discipline with various military protocols and rules. She would follow orders carefully and put her mission first.

But if Roy was reckless, or if bad orders were given, Hawkeye would disobey him and take over the orders instead. Fortunately, she did this with care, and the results got even better. Remember when she dragged Roy into the car and away from Envy and Gluttony? It wasn't the right time for Roy to fight, and Hawkeye knew that.
