Curious about Sailor Mercury which is identical to the color blue? Let's follow the discussion of Sailor Mercury below!
Anime & Manga | 03 October
One of the characters from the anime, manga, movie, and game Sailor Moon named Sailor Mercury has quite an interesting power. Her alter ego, Ami Mizuno, is as charming and smart as her Sailor Senshi identity. Sailor Senshi or Pretty Soldiers must protect the world from evil, and Sailor Mercury's special powers and strong analytical skills make her an important part of the team.
The Sailor Moon series has a beautiful and vast universe where most of the villains have extraordinary powers and special abilities, however, Sailor Mercury is always ready to protect other people as well as planet earth from evil. Curious about Sailor Mercury which is identical to the color blue? Let's follow the discussion of Sailor Mercury below!
1. Originally This Character Was Designed As A Cyborg
In the manga, the character Ai Minako is told to have a friend named Hikaru Sorano in Codename: Sailor V. Hikaru Sorano has a striking resemblance to the character we now know as Ami Mizuno. On the other hand, the creator of the Sailor Moon manga, Naoko Takeuchi, finally turned Hikaru into a unique character and was unrelated to Ami in Sailor Moon.
Initially, there were changes to Ami's character design. Takeuchi wants Ami to be a cyborg who eventually dies from her injuries. However, Takeuchi's editor strongly opposed the idea. So, Ami was finally designed to be a fully human character, but that didn't stop Takeuchi from bringing back the cyborg element for Hotaru Tomoe's character.
2. Her first attack had no name in the manga
As a water-powered Sailor Senshi, Sailor Mercury has control over the element in its various forms, such as liquid, snow, ice, and even fog. In the 1992 anime series, Mercury casts a veil of water mist to confuse enemies so the other Sailor Senshi can deal their final blow.
But in the first printed version of the manga, Mercury's first technique isn't even named. She created the mist as usual, but Takeuchi left the technique unnamed until the manga was reprinted in 2003-2004. The attack was eventually named Mercury Aqua Mist, which matched the move seen in its live-action adaptation that aired on television that same year. The maneuver is also called Mercury Aqua Mist in the Sailor Moon Crystal series.
3. She is the Most Popular Sailor Senshi in Japan
Sailor Mercury and her alter ego named Ami Mizuno were chosen as the favorite characters of Sailor Moon fans in Japan. She is a reliable, kind, and hardworking student, and maybe that's why so many viewers in Japan can understand him. Ami basically represents the average Japanese girl audience who can easily see themselves in the character of Ami.
In a 1996 interview on Animerica, Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi admitted that she wasn't as focused on developing Ami's character as she was with Rei and the other characters. Apart from that, the character Ami became very popular after the anime started airing in 1992.

4. She's Allergic To Love Letters
Ami secretly likes romantic novels and enjoys reading them while taking a warm bath, but she is completely different when it comes to romance in real life. Since she is a shy girl who has little experience in dating, she becomes very anxious when someone is romantically attracted to her in the events of Ami's first love.
The love letter that was sent to Ami made her allergic so she developed a red rash on her body because of the romantic letters. This leads to a comedic confrontation between Sailor Mercury and an evil spirit whom she mistook for her mysterious rival in academia.
5. She is fluent in German because she wanted to be a doctor
In the anime Sailor Moon R, Ami almost quit her team because she was going to study abroad in Germany. Of course, she didn't leave, but her fans might overlook the fact that Ami speaks fluent German, or at least has a good grasp of German.
This is most likely the case when the POV shot is shown of Sailor Mercury's Mercury Goggle in Sailor Moon R, all of the text written in German. This may only be a one-time visual, but it makes sense that Ami would be fluent in German, given that every Japanese medical student is required to learn German. Because the medical field in Japan often uses German writing and terms.
6. According to the creator, Ami's hair is quite difficult to draw
While many people think that Sailor Senshi with short hair would be the easiest character to draw, the character designer of the 90s anime series, Kazuko Tadano, has expressed her distaste for Ami's hair. She stated how difficult it was to draw and shape Sailor Mercury's hair. This is also approved by Naoko Takeuchi the creator of the Sailor Moon series.
