The anime series that debuted recently on 9 April 2022 immediately became the talking point among many anime fans on Twitter, to the point that it was trending no.1. The new anime series Spy x Family is an anime adaptation of the manga by Tatsuya Endo and produced by WIT Studio and CloverWorks. It’s a comedy-action anime that follows a skilled spy named "Twilight" whose task is to carry out the secret mission "Operation Strix". 

To carry out this mission, the first thing Twilight needs is to have a fake family. By making up a fake family, he’ll have the perfect disguise for the secret mission, which is to gain access to Donovan Desmond, a politician, and Twilight’s main target. 1. Twilight’s Real Name

Interestingly, Indonesian fans call Twilight with a name they made up themselves: Mas Senja (mas=used to address an older male, senja=afternoon/twilight). However, Twilight’s real name is Loid Forger. When he was a kid, he lost both his parents in a war. Since he hates his past, he decided to discard his real identity and become a spy under the codename 'Tasogare/Twilight'.

2. Twilight Has 7 Pseudonyms & Fake Identities

Loid Forger has 7 pseudonyms/identities that have been known so far, including Robert (as Politician’s Secretary), Loi-Loi or Loidy (as Yuri Briar calls him), Lionel (National Defense Force), Lawrence (a name he uses on the dark market), Twain Foney, Doctor Forger (psychiatrist), and Loid Forger (as Anya Forger’s guardian)

3. Yor’s Real Identity

Yor is Twilight’s wife whose real identity is an assassin under the codename "Thorn Princess". She’s also known for being highly competent in completing her contracts regardless of the difficulties. Her maiden name was Briar before she took up Twilight’s Forger once they were “married”. 

4. Anya’s Identity

Anya is the adoptive daughter of Twilight whom he took care of from an orphanage. She was actually a test subject under the codename '007'. Anya has the ability to read others’ minds. That’s what causes her to move around quite often as she tries to hide from the researchers who treated her as a test subject.

5. Anya Had Been Adopted Before

Prior to being adopted by Twilight, Anya had been adopted three times before, but she was sent back to the orphanage due to her reading her adoptive parents’ minds.

6. Twilight’s a Big Name in His Organization

Twilight is a well-known name in his organization, having many other WISE agents be captivated to see Twilight in person and see him in action. Some even rush to the castle once they hear his name.

7. The Truth Behind Yor’s Family

Yor and her family were originally from Eastern Nielsberg, and both of her parents passed away when she was very young. She shares a similar past with Twilight’s, yet Yor wasn’t alone as she has a younger brother. 

8. Twilight’s Pin

If you take a closer look, Twilight always wears a lapel pin on his clothes. This pin is actually his organization’s symbol. The Westalia Intelligence Services' Eastern-Focused Division (W.I.S.E.) is an organization devoted to keeping the peace between Ostania and Westalis.

9. Anya’s Favorite Things

Just like other kids, Anya has several things that she loves. According to Spy x Family Volume 2, Anya loves her chimera doll, peanuts, spy-related cartoons, silenced pistols, bombs, castles, penguins, her uniform, her father (Loid), her mother (Yor), and her close friend Becky.

10. The Inspiration for Anya’s Character Design

Anya’s character design is actually adapted from Ashe, a character created by Tatsuya Endo in Rengoku no Ashe, his previous one-shot story. As a matter of fact, Anya was initially planned to be older and taller based on the early sketch for the Forger family, as seen in the Spy x Family bonus sketch.

11. A Special Dog

Later on, in Spy x Family, Anya will meet a big fluffy dog. It starts when Anya and her two parents visit a pet store to find a dog to adopt. Right there, Anya sees Bond through the display window and they connect telepathically and Anya gets a vision of the Forgers as a complete family. As it turns out, Bond is a special dog who has precognition abilities. Formerly known as “Subject 8”, Bond was also an experiment subject who gained special abilities.

12. Yuri Briar’s Also an Agent

Yor’s younger brother is a 20-year-old man who works in the State Security Service (SSS). He keeps his job at the SSS a secret from Yor and pretends to be a normal civil servant at the foreign ministry.

13. Yuri Has a Sister-Complex

Yuri is known to have had a sister complex since his childhood. He would do anything to get Yor’s affection. This is likely due to Yuri losing his mother early in his childhood, which caused him to seek a mother figure in Yor.

14. Loid Forger’s Main Contact

Sylvia Sherwood is Twilight’s main contact at WISE and the one who gives Twilight directions. She can be quite demanding of Twilight’s spy abilities and often sends him on missions without rest due to the organization being understaffed. Loid is surprised when Sylvia allows him to go on a cruise vacation as he expects her to reject his proposal.

15. The Truth of Agent Nightfall

This agent, whose real name is Fiona Frost, works as an assistant to Loid Forger at Berlint General Hospital where Loid works. As an undercover agent, she provides Loid with mission details. Nightfall was trained by Loid to hide her emotions, not showing her emotions in any situation, even when making a mental confession of love to Loid.

16. Anya’s Weaknesses

According to the manga, aside from her mind-reading ability, she still has a weak point n her ability. Every new moon, Anya loses her telepathic abilities. This phenomenon is referred to as “Eclipsing” by the scientists at the facility where she was a test subject. Aside from that, Anya also struggles in several subjects at her school, such as sports, music, and drawing.

17. Damian Desmond Has a Crush on Anya

Damian is the second son of Donovan Desmond, who’s Loid’s main target. Since he’s the son of the leader of the National Unity Party, Damian is put in a highly respected status among his peers, which makes him very arrogant. After taking Anya’s punch, he starts to get embarrassed around her. After Anya’s tear-filled apology, Damian begins to develop feelings for Anya, but he keeps on hiding these feelings.

18. Anya’s Close Friend

Since Anya became a member of the Eden Academy, she starts to befriend Becky Blackbell, the daughter of the CEO of Blackbell, a big military manufacturer in Spy x Family. Because she was born to an affluent family, Becky can be arrogant and spoiled. When she sees Damian and his cliques make fun of Anya while Anya laughs them off, Becky starts to admire Anya and befriend her.

19. Loid’s Trusty Informant

Franky Franklin is a trusty informant who works for Loid Forger’s agency. He’s the one who gained info regarding Eden Academy’s exam and Anya’s past records before Loid decided to adopt her. He’s a kind-hearted man who’s always willing to help Loid even in the direst situations.

20. Each Character Comes with Their Respective Unique Chair

In Spy x Family, each character is featured on the manga volume’s cover on their respective chair. This may sound trivial, but each of these chairs represents something. For example, Loid’s elegant and luxurious Le Corbusier LC2, Anya’s adorable marshmallow sofa that represents Anya’s naive and precocious personality, or Yor’s luxurious white Eames La Chaise that represents Yor’s innocence and also her job as an assassin. 

The anime is rumored to consist of 25 episodes, which will be split into 2 seasons. Season 1 consists of 12 episodes, airing from 9 April to 25 June 2022.
