Anime & Manga | 16 February
In Kimetsu no Yaiba, there are several characters from the previous eras that played a huge role and related to Kamado Tanjiro. One of them is Yoriichi Tsugikuni, a legendary Demon Slayer and Tanjiro’s ancestor.
This character is yet to be covered more thoroughly in the anime, but he has some interesting facts that some of you probably didn’t know.
So, on this occasion, we’d like to give you a list of the seven facts about Yoriichi Tsugikuni. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
1. An Unparalleled Swordsman
Yoriichi didn’t have any swordsmanship training when he was little, yet that didn’t stop him from becoming an expert at the art. He rather easily became a master swordsman and defeated an expert despite never picking up a sword before. In a relatively short period, Yoriichi became the most skilled swordsman in the Demon Slayer Corps.
His unmatched speed put Yoriichi on a whole different level. Even when he went up against Muzan Kibutsuji, Yoriichi was able to render him overwhelmed just with his sword.
2. Yoriichi’s Sword Reduces Demons’ Regenerative Ability
Yoriichi’s sword is quite unique. His katana changes color from black to bright red in combat. After changing its color, Yoriichi can use his sword to burn demons and limit their regenerative ability.
Yoriichi managed to defeat some of the most powerful demons like Muzan with his sword, often leaving them with permanent injuries or scars despite their regenerative ability.
This Nichirin Blade is probably the most powerful sword to fight demons. No wonder why Muzan is so afraid of Yoriichi due to his skills and the ability of his sword.
3. The Progenitor of Breathing Styles
Yoriichi created the Sun Breathing, which is considered the first Breathing Style. Almost all other Breathing Styles are derived from this style. Also known as Hinokami Kagura, Sun Breathing is the only technique used and passed down through generations in the Kamado family.
The last known user of this technique is Tanjiro, who was taught by his father, Tanjuro Kamado. As someone who came up with the technique, Yoriichi was able to perfect this technique and made it the basis for the other Breathing Styles.
4. He’s Able to Use the Thirteenth Form
Yoriichi knew how to perform a specific technique called the Thirteenth Form. Every Demon Slayer has 12 forms based on their Breathing Styles, with the Thirteenth Form being the most difficult to master. This form requires the user to perform all twelve forms in repetitive succession to increase their speed and accuracy.
The Thirteenth Form was the only form that defeated Muzan as it allowed Yoriichi to hit all of his vital organs. Yoriichi used it against Muzan in their final fight. With his enhanced agility and swordsmanship, Yoriichi was able to perfect this technique.

5. His Twin Brother Became a Demon
Yoriichi had a twin brother named Michikatsu Tsugikuni. As the youngest of the two, Yoriichi looked up to his twin brother with respect and vowed that he would become a great swordsman just like him.
However, a tragedy occurred when Muzan turned Michikatsu into a demon, separating the brothers into sworn enemies. Michikatsu became Kokushibo and part of the Twelve Kizuki.
6. He Wore Hanafuda Earrings, Like Tanjiro
The earrings that Tanjiro wears are actually a family heirloom handed down by his father. As it turns out, Yoriichi also wore the same hanafuda earrings. This further indicates the familial relationship between the two.
These earrings represent the cherry blossoms in their ancestral home. These earrings seem to have a special place in the Kamado family given that these have been passed down through generations.
7. Had a Similar Demon Slayer Mark as Tanjiro’s
If you look at Yoriichi’s forehead, you’ll realize that he has a Demon Slayer Mark. You may realize that this mark shares a striking resemblance with Tanjiro’s Demon Slayer Mark.
Although they’re different in colors, Yoriichi and Tanjiro’s marks show that they’re exceptionally powerful Demon Slayers. Both of their marks also indicate that they may be related to each other.
