Netflix announced that it will broadcast one of the One Piece movies that were released in 2012, One Piece Film Z. In this film, Luffy faced Zephyr or Z, a former Marine who became a pirate. In this article, Dunia Games wants to discuss the facts about Zephyr in One Piece. Take a look at the article below!
1. Didn’t Have a Devil Fruit Ability
Unlike most of the main antagonists in the One Piece movie, Zephyr did not have a devil fruit ability. Even so, Zephyr had complete authority over his crew of several hundred battleships, three devil fruit users, and an army of Pacifistas ready to help him.
Even though he didn’t possess a devil fruit power, Zephyr had extensive knowledge of devil fruits. He was even able to quickly understand the mechanics behind Luffy's Second Gear and advised Kizaru not to rely too much on the power of the Pika Pika no Mi. Furthermore, Zephyr was also the only Admiral who didn’t have a devil fruit ability.
2. Mentored Three Admirals
Sakazuki, Borsalino, Kuzan, Momonga, Doberman, Onigumo, Comil, Yamakaji, Strawberry, Hina, Smoker, Ain, and Binz were trained by Zephyr when he was appointed as an instructor. Some of them called Zephyr “sensei".
To show their respect, Ain, Binz, and Shuzo who were the closest among all of Zephyr's disciples withdrew from the Marines to support Zephyr. Thanks to Zephyr's upbringing as well, Sakazuki (Akainu), Borsalino (Kizaru), and Kuzan (Aokiji) could be promoted as Admiral.
3. His relationship with Aokiji
Zephyr had a great influence on Aokiji's future during his training. Aokiji had great respect for him even though he opposed the master plan to destroy the New World. Aokiji had never once attacked him. Aokiji also claimed that he drank Zephyr's favorite drink to try to be cool like his teacher.
In the end, Aokiji helped Zephyr to protect Ain from the Marines' wrath by erecting a wall of ice between Ain and Zephyr and comforting Ain and Binz over Zephyr's death. Of all his students, only Kizaru was hated by Zephyr, and the reason was unknown.
4. Zephyr the Black Arm
Zephyr mastered Busoshoku Haki at the age of 34, allowing him to coat parts of his body with Haki and turned his arms black to increase his attack and defense power. That's why he earned the nickname "Black Arm”.
Zephyr could easily create a large crater on the ground with his punch. He could also easily destroy Kibin's Tekkai with a Haki-enhanced punch. After one of his arms was cut in the battle against pirates, he used a mechanical arm.
5. Admired Z the Hero
As a child, Zephyr loved to play as a hero he created called "Z". Back then, he defeated the bullies and protected a girl and her doll. Sixty years ago, the 14-year-old Zephyr enlisted in the Marines with the desire to become a hero.
He participated in his first fight four years later, in the G-5 Division. At 28, Zephyr realized that the Marines weren't always heroes. Even so, he had his view of justice and moves like a hero.
6. Similarities with Shiki
Zephyr had several similarities to the main antagonist from the Strong World movie, Shiki. These two are antagonists that Eiichiro Oda directly supervised during the process. Their biographies were also specially developed by Oda. Both also have alternate limbs that function as weapons, Shiki had two swords in place of his legs, and Zephyr had a large mechanical arm, replacing his lost arm
Both of these characters had ship parts on their bodies, Shiki had a steering wheel on his head and Zephyr had two masts crossed on his chest, and both were also from the era of Gol D. Roger.
7. Similarities with Whitebeard
Zephyr even also had some similarities with Edward Newgate or Shirohige. Both were from the era of Gol D. Roger, and they were the same age (though Newgate died two years before Zephyr). Their final act was to sacrifice themselves to save their subordinates from the Marines.
Both were killed by his former subordinates who both respected them both. Their weapons were used as marks on their respective graves, and both relied on medical devices outside of combat.
