The official website for Gekijo-ban Jujutsu Kaisen 0 or Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie announced that Kana Hanazawa will be voicing the character Rika Orimoto. Rika Orimoto is the key to the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and is a childhood friend of the main character Yuka Okkotsu, voiced by Megumi Ogata. The two had promised to marry, but Rika died in a car accident and became a vengeful cursed spirit with a special class.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will premiere on December 24, 2021. The 24th episode that concludes the first season of the anime series ends on March 26, 2021 with the announcement that a film will be released this winter. The film is based on the manga's prequel Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Koto Senmon Gakko (Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School), with animation by MAPPA studio again and TOHO distributing it.

Viz Media released the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 manga on January 5, 2021. The manga is about Yuta Okkotsu, a high school student who becomes nervous because he is suffering from a serious problem. His childhood friend, Rika, has turned into a cursed spirit and Yuta has promised not to leave Rika alone.

Because Rika is not an ordinary Cursed spirit, this case is also noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High School, a school where exorcists learn how to fight Curses. Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll in his school, so he can learn to face the Curse that haunts him.

The Jujutsu Kaisen series premiered in October 2020. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime outside of Asia and also features dubbing in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German.

Sunghoo Park (The God of High School) is directing the anime at studio MAPPA. Hiroshi Seko (Attack on Titan: Lost Girls, Banana Fish, Vinland Saga) is writing and supervising the script. Tadashi Hiramatsu (Yuri!!! on Ice, Parasyte -the maxim-) is designing the characters. Hiroaki Tsutsumi, Yoshimasa Terui, and Arisa Okehazama are composing the music.

Akutami launched the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018. The manga has 55 million copies in circulation, including print copies as well as digital versions. Akutami said in February 2021 that the manga would "probably" end in two years.
