Studio Ghibli is a household name in the animated movie industry. More and more animated movie fans all over the world are aware of Studio Ghibli and its movies due to the studio's distinctive style and global reach.
Given the popularity and distinctive animation inherent in every Studio Ghibli animated film, most people tend to think that every anime with a similar art style is made by Studio Ghibli. As a matter of fact, many of those anime movies aren't made by Studio Ghibli. On this occasion, Dunia Games would like to give you a list of the 5 anime movies that are often mistaken for Studio Ghibli's productions. Without further ado, let's get into it.
1. Mary And The Witch's Flower
This animated film has similar visual and storytelling elements to Studio Ghibli, but this is not by chance. This is because most of the people who worked on this project previously worked for Ghibli, including Hiromasa Yonebayashi, who later founded Studio Ponoc and directed The Secret World of Arrietty. The film follows a girl named Mart Smith, who happens to come across a much sought-after flower called fly-by-night. Just like Chihiro Ogino from Spirited Away, she concluded that few things were more important than living in the wizarding world.
2. Metropolis
Many Studio Ghibli films have retro-futuristic elements of technology, such as Castle In The Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, and Nausicaa of The Valley of The Wind, giving out the vibe that the movie simultaneously takes place in the past and future. This also applies to Metropolis, which bears a resemblance to Castle In The Sky, as the main villain in the film plans to use artificial life forms to seize power. Unlike Sheeta, who refuses the throne offered to her, the female protagonist in Metropolis, Tima, tries to destroy humanity after discovering that she is an android.

3. The Boy And The Beast
Most Studio Ghibli films involve a protagonist befriending magical creatures. Kumatetsu is the titular Beast in this film. He meets a human named Ren, who ends up traveling alongside him, as most of the characters in Studio Ghibli do. They ultimately decide to live in a magical place to be able to return home to live their lives normally. Unlike most people would think, this film was made by Studio Chizu, not by Studio Ghibli.
4. Ni No Kuni
Despite Studio Ghibli's involvement in the animations for the Ni No Kuni game, the studio wasn't directly responsible for the making of the film. Instead, the longtime director of Studio Ghibli, Yoshiyuki Momose, was the director of this film. The art style used in Ni No Kuni is very reminiscent of Howl's Moving Castle. Even the protagonist, Yusuke Ninomiya, bears a physical resemblance to Howl. Although most fans would probably think Studio Ghibli is behind this amazing movie, OLM, Inc. is the animation studio that produced Ni No Kuni.
5. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Due to its popularity, many believed that this animated film is also from Studio Ghibli. This is probably because Studio Ghibli is one of the biggest Japanese animation studios. However, although the storyline also follows a young girl like most Ghibli films, the film's interpretation of time travel makes this film very unique and much-loved. Makoto carelessly uses her time-leaping powers for the smallest things. Her actions serve as a good lesson for the audience about the consequences of forcefully taking control of time.
