British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the nominations for the 2023 movie awards on Thursday, January 18th 2024. The anime movie The Boy and the Heron by Hayao Miyazaki was nominated for a BAFTA Award in the Animated Film category. The announcement of the nominations for this category begins at around the 5:31 mark in the video below:

Although The Super Mario Bros. Movie was shortlisted for the Animated Film category, but unfortunately did not receive a nomination. The same thing happened in the Films Not Presented in English category, where The Boy and the Heron was shortlisted but did not receive a nomination. The BAFTA awards ceremony will be held on February 18th 2024.

On January 7th, The Boy and the Heron won the Best Animated Film category at the 81st Golden Globes Awards. In addition to receiving a BAFTA nomination, the movie, along with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, was also recently nominated for the 51st Annie Awards.

The Art Directors Guild also recently nominated The Boy and the Heron and The Super Mario Bros. Movie in the Animated Feature Film category. The Producers Guild of America also nominated both movies in the Outstanding Producer for an Animated Film category at the 2024 PGA Awards.

As an additional note, this movie is the first work from Studio Ghibli to receive a simultaneous IMAX version release. Viewers can enjoy this movie in Dolby Atmos, Dolby Cinema, and DTS:X formats.

Hayao Miyazaki, as the original creator, also directed and wrote the script for this movie. Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro) is in charge of the musical composition. The theme song "Chikyugi" (Globe) is sung by Kenshi Yonezu (Chainsaw Man, My Hero Academia, March Comes in Like a Lion).
