No less thrilling than a monster or kaiju movie is a movie about man-eating sharks! Despite the fact that during 1958 to 2016 "only" 439 fatal shark attacks were recorded, in fact, shark attacks are still things that can happen in the real world -- unlike Godzilla attacks. Making the undersea threat feels more realistic and believable. And this is a list of 27 movies that feature ferocious sharks, which also made the sea predator into a creature that must be feared when you go into the water!

1. The Meg

Starring Jason Statham and Li Bingbing (Ada Wong, Resident Evil: Retribution), The Meg is a 2018 film based on the novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. The story tells about an ancient shark Megalodon as large as 22 meters suddenly appeared and attacked the crew of a submarine in the Pacific Ocean.

2. Jaws

Talking about the shark movies, of course we can't miss the classic Jaws series. Like the previous title, this Stephen Spielberg directed film is also an adaptation of a novel. Police Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) tries to close the beach because of a great white shark attack, but his attempt is rejected by the city council led by Larry Vaughan (Murray Hamilton) because Amity Island beaches are a major source of tourism for the city.

3. Jaws 2

Three years after the events of the first film, the great white shark reappears on the shores of Amity Island. After a string of missing persons and deaths, Martin Brody suspects that the shark is behind it, however, he has a hard time convincing the rest of the townspeople. The film is directed by Jeannot Szwarc.

4. Jaws 3-D

The story of Jaws 3-D is set in Florida's SeaWorld and focuses on Martin's two sons, Michael (Dennis Quaid) and Sean Brody (John Putch). As the park prepares to open, a white shark manages to get inside and kill a number of people. However, after the shark is caught, its mother suddenly shows up.

5. Jaws: The Revenge

The fourth film returns to Amity Island, but ignores everything in Jaws 3-D. Early in the film, Martin Brody dies of a heart attack, although his wife, Ellen Brody (Lorraine Gary), claims that he died of a fear of sharks. Meanwhile, his youngest son, Sean (Mitchell Anderson), is attacked and killed by a shark. Ellen was sure that there was a shark that deliberately terrorized her family.

6. 47 Meters Down

This 2017 film was directed by horror film director Johannes Roberts (The Strangers: Prey at Night). Sisters Lisa (Mandy Moore) and Kate (Claire Holt) are invited to dive in a protective cage while on vacation in Mexico. When their equipment breaks, they both fall to the bottom of the sea and are trapped in the cage, while their air supply is running low and there is a threat from great white sharks.

7. 47 Meters Down: Uncaged

Four teenage girls explore a sunken city from Mayan civilization. But once inside, they find not only the sunken ruins but also a hunting ground for the deadly white sharks. With their air supply dwindling, they must try to navigate underwater mazes and tunnels to find their way out.

8. Deep Blue Sea

On a remote island that serves as a research facility, Dr. Susan McAlester conducted an experiment to cure Alzheimer's disease using the DNA of genetically modified mako shark’s brain tissue. When a company executive arrives to investigate the underwater facility, a shark somehow attacks the researchers. The series' first entry was directed by Renny Harlin (Exorcist: The Beginning).

9. Deep Blue Sea 2

A shark conservation biologist Dr. Misty Calhoun works as a consultant for a top-secret project involving a genetically modified bull shark. However, the intelligent shark attacked the researchers and caused a mass flood at the site.

10. Deep Blue Sea 3

The third entry, which was released in 2020, tells the story of Dr. Emma Collins, the leader of a global warming research team on a small island. Their study is interrupted when Emma's ex-boyfriend and marine biologist Richard arrives to search for a genetically modified bull sharks.

11. The Reef

This movie is based on the true story of Ray Boundy, the only survivor of an incident in 1983. Luke (Damian Walshe-Howling) and his friends and ex-girlfriend set out on a cruise to Indonesia from Australia with a sailor named Warren. However, their ship hit a rock and leaked. Luke suggests that they swim to a nearby island while Warren prefers to stay in the hull waiting for help as their location is infested with sharks.

12. The Shallows

Nancy (Blake Lively) who is surfing on a secluded beach is suddenly surrounded by a group of great white sharks. Although stranded only 182 meters from the beach, Nancy must think and try hard to survive under the sun without any supplies or equipment. 20. Shark Night

Seven college kids go to their friend's lake house for a vacation. But things go awry when one of them is torn off the arm in a water skiing accident. At first they only thought that it was just an accident, but in fact the incident involved a killer shark.

21. Toxic Shark

As you might expect, this 2017 man-eating shark movie has a ridiculous plot. Because the acidity of the sea water off the coast of Puerto Rico becomes extremely high, the sharks become infected and now toxic. Visitors of a small inn then get targeted by these poisonous sharks.

22. Sharknado

A “C-class” cheesy movie that became an internet meme because of its ridiculously absurd story. A strange storm that brought high tides -- as well as sharks from the sea -- hit the state of Southern California, United States. Former surfer Finley "Fin" Shepard (Ian Ziering) must embark on a dangerous journey through a shark tornado to save his wife and daughter. According to the news, the process of shooting this film only took 18 days.

23. Sharknado 2: The Second One

Continuing the "adventure" of Fin, he and his ex-wife, April (Tara Reid), now travel to New York City to warn the world about the strange, bloody incident that befell them. But it turns out that the city is in danger of becoming the epicenter of two vicious tornadoes full of sharks.

24. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

After hitting the commercial center of the United States, a new tornado hits the Washington DC, just as Fin is about to receive the prestigious Medal of Honor award from the President. With the capital on lockdown, Fin makes another perilous journey to Florida's Universal Orlando Resort to find April, when a swarm of ferocious mini sharks congregate to become a meteorological threat that will wipe out America's entire East Coast.

25. Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens

Five years after the Sharknado destroyed Washington, the threat of a shark tornado has been stopped thanks to scientists' invention. But when Fin goes to Las Vegas for a family reunion, new dark clouds begin to form, the tornado has now mutated into the greatest Sharknado of all time.

26. Sharknado 5: Global Swarming

The Sharknado crisis is far from over, and Fin and April travel all the way to London when an expedition accidentally triggers a wave of Sharknados that are fiercer and bigger than ever while their son, Gil (Billy Barratt), is sucked into the eye of the hurricane. The partners must be ready to face a Sharknado that continues to grow to a global scale.

27. The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time

Much of the face of Earth and humanity is in danger of being destroyed by Sharkzilla, which appears due to an unexpected space-time jump. In his final mission, Fin and his friends must jump back in time and stop the very first Sharknado that he encountered back then.
