Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one of the most awaited films in Phase 4 of the MCU. Especially after the trailer was released a few days ago, it has added to the curiosity of fans about the chaos of the universe which is the main topic of this film.
Some of the old characters will reappear, plus many new characters will debut as superheroes in the MCU such as America Chavez and Captain Carter (previously only animated). Because it has an attachment to several MCU films, it is better for you to re-watch the following series of films before watching Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
1. Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange (2016) may be the first film that you can watch again before watching the sequel. In this first film, we are brought to know the story of Stephen Strange before finally having magical powers. Some of the characters in the first film will also reappear later, such as Christine Palmer, Wong, and Baron Mordo.
2. WandaVision
WandaVision is the first series presented by the MCU that airs on Disney+. Tells about the home life of Wanda Maximoff and Vision in the city of Westview.
The Scarlet Witch herself will appear in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and is even rumored to be one of Doctor Strange's enemies.
3. Loki
Loki is the next series you can watch again. Although it looks like nothing from the Loki series will show off in Doctor Strange 2, Loki is a "guide" for the audience on how the multiverse works.
In the Loki series, it is explained how a multiverse can occur. For example due to actions that should not be taken that result in the creation of a Nexus moment. It also shows that a character can have variants in other universes.
4. What If…?
Another series that you need to watch so you don't get confused with Doctor Strange 2's storyline is What If…? This series does tell about the alternate world of the superheroes in the MCU. For example, in the first episode, when Peggy Carter got a superhuman serum that made himself Captain Carter. Yes, there are many rumors circulating that Captain Carter will also appear in Doctor Strange.
Episode 4 is also quite important because it tells another figure from Doctor Strange who is stronger.
5. Spider-Man No Way Home
Doctor Strange took on an important role in the film Spider-Man: No Way Home. The spell that Strange failed to cast made the universe go into chaos causing figures from other universes to appear. Fortunately it was finally resolved even though it had to sacrifice Peter Parker.
This reference from Spider-Man: No Way Home will also affect the story in Doctor Strange 2 later.
