HoYoverse announced that Genshin Impact Version 4.2 "The Sinner's Masquerade" is coming on November 8th 2023. Following the story that began in Version 4.0, the Traveler and the residents of Fontaine will soon face one of the biggest crises in the main story. 

Two of our reliable companions, Archon Hydro Furina and Charlotte the journalist will also be joining as playable characters. To the east of the Court of Fontaine, two new areas will bring more underwater adventures for Travelers.

In the upcoming Archon's Quest, the nation of Fontaine will be on the brink of destruction, and solving the problem will require the efforts of various forces, even the Fatui Harbinger. Water from the Primordial Ocean that could dissolve all of Fontaine's people is creeping to the surface, awakening more formidable monsters and enemies.

Travelers will encounter new weekly bosses, the "All-Devouring Narwhal" which results in large area attacks, as well as "The Foul Knight" in the belly of a giant whale. A new boss "Hydro Tulpa" will also be resurrected, which has the unique ability to strengthen themselves during battle by absorbing "Half-Tulpa".

Two important figures of Fontaine will be playable in Version 4.2. The Hydro Archon, Furina, will join as a five-star Sword-using Hydro Character, and the famous journalist Charlotte will join as a four-star Catalyst-using Cryo Character. Furina has a graceful fighting style and can switch between the two characteristics of Arkhe, which will give her a unique appearance as well as a flexible Elemental Skill to attack or recover.

Meanwhile, Charlotte incorporates photo shooting techniques with her camera "Monsieur Verite" into her fighting style. She can also recover and inflict Cryo DMG within an area. Furina and Charlotte's first debut will be accompanied by the return of Baizhu in the early-stage Request Event, followed by Cyno and Kamisato Ayato in the late-stage Request Event.
