Recently, there has been news that the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, plans to ban Fortnite. This is because there is content that requires players to destroy Kaaba-like structure.

Reporting from travel.detik.com, Sandiaga Uno has instructed his staff at the Ministry of Tourism to review and ban Fortnite from being played by children.

"Five times a day at least we face the Kaaba, from wherever we are in the world to perform the obligatory prayers or sunnah prayers. And in this game I was told that there are Icons that are considered to be similar to the Kaaba that must be destroyed to get new weapons and go to the next level," said Sandiaga Uno.

"Therefore we will instruct the team to review and immediately issue a ban. We also want to warn some game developers to be careful," he added (as written on travel.detik.com).

The plan to block Fortnite also emerged after Al-Azhar Egypt issued a fatwa against the game. So the news about the plan to ban Fortnite went viral.

Responding to the news, the Fortnite developer has also provided clarification on what happened. In fact, the viral Kaaba-like building was not made by the developer, but made by one of the Fortnite players through creative mode.

The viral Kaaba-like building first appeared through a video uploaded by the DIGIRAMBO-RAMBO YouTube channel on 17 February 2019. The video, which lasts about one minute and 20 seconds, shows that the player has built the Kaaba or Makkah through the creative mode feature in Fortnite.

FYI, creative mode allows players to be as creative as possible to build buildings and others by utilizing the assets in the Fortnite game.

In addition, there is no recommendation regarding destroying the Kaaba-like building in Fortnite. So that the viral news about Fortnite, which requires destroying the Kaaba-like building in order to level up, is confirmed to be a hoax or fake news.
