Before we know it, we’re nearing the end of the first split of regional League of Legends tournaments around the world. As the world prepares to welcome the next international stage, the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), one big name from Europe has already secured its spot: G2 Esports.
Yes, G2 Esports became the first team to qualify for MSI 2025 after securing a spot in the LEC 2025 Spring finals. This is not just a stroke of luck, but a result of the LEC's new system, which awards MSI tickets to two spring split finalists - one as champion and one as runner-up.
So how did G2 secure their spot at MSI 2025 before the finals were played? The answer lies in their victory over the Spanish powerhouse, Movistar KOI (MKOI) in the third round of the playoffs with a convincing score of 3-1. This victory automatically sent G2 to the LEC Spring finals and also guaranteed their spot at MSI 2025.
However, who will accompany G2 to MSI 2025 from the LEC region is still a question mark. Currently, five other teams are still competing tightly in the third round bracket: Fnatic, GiantX, Karmine Corp, Team Heretics, and of course Movistar KOI who still have a chance to make a comeback.
MSI 2025: First in History with New Format
Interestingly, MSI 2025 will be the first international tournament to implement a new slot distribution system. Now, all regional leagues from Asia Pacific and America - both LCS (North America) and LLA (Latin America) - will get a fairer chance through a more comprehensive qualification system.
MSI 2025 itself is scheduled to take place starting June 27, 2025, and is certain to be one of the most anticipated tournaments with fierce battles between League of Legends stars from all over the world.
For those of you who missed this news, now is the right moment to catch up on the developments of the LEC and MSI 2025. G2 Esports is not only the first team to secure a place at MSI, but also opens a new chapter in how elite teams from the LEC region establish their dominance.
Will G2 be the king of Europe again?
Or will there be a surprise from Fnatic, Karmine Corp, or new teams hungry for titles?
