Horror has indeed become one of the most popular genres on the big screen. Horror movies can take themes from anywhere like folklore, conspiracy theories, or even personal experiences. Some of you maybe don't know that there are also horror movies based on popular video games. What are those? Find out here!
1. Resident Evil
There is almost no fan of horror games and movies who don’t know Resident Evil. Resident Evil, also known as Biohazard in Japan, is one of the most popular horror game franchises of all time. It was first released in 1996 and spawned many sequels. Not only is the game successful, but the Resident Evil movie franchise is also the most successful movie series adapted from a video game.
In the first movie, Resident Evil tells the story of the main character Alice, a member of the commando team who has a history of amnesia. Together with Rain, she tries to fight the zombie horde. They have to close down the laboratory facilities operated by Umbrella Corporation to prevent the spread of a deadly virus that kills all laboratory personnel and resurrects them as zombies.
2. The House Of The Dead
The House of The Dead is a horror First Person Shooter game by Sega which was first introduced in 1996. This game has simple gameplay where players have to shoot zombies before they get close and attack the player. The House of The Dead became a very popular game in arcades and was made into an action-horror movie in 2003 under the name House of the Dead.
The House of the Dead movie tells the story of Simon and Greg who planned to come to a party held on a remote island. Unfortunately, they missed their ship and had to board onto Kirk's boat. Upon their arrival, they encounter a gruesome sight, the party-goers are being killed by a group of zombies.
3. Silent Hill
Silent Hill is a survival horror game developed by Konami for the PlayStation console. Silent Hill game was first released in 1999, followed by Silent Hill 2 (2001) and Silent Hill 3 (2003). Until now, Silent Hill is still known as one of the best survival horror games ever until it was adapted into a movie in 2006. Silent Hill tells the story of Rose who brings her adopted daughter Sharon to the city of Silent Hill. Rose investigates the strange things that happened to Sharon and the mysterious city of Silent Hill.
4. Fatal Frame
Fatal Frame is a survival horror game developed by Tecmo for the PlayStation and Nintendo Wii. This game was first released in 2001 and spawned 4 sequels: Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly (2003), Fatal Frame III: The Tormented (2005), and Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (2008), and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water (2014).
This game was made into a movie in 2014 with the title Fatal Frame: The Movie, which tells the story of the character Aya, who is the most popular student at a Catholic school for girls. A mysterious incident occurred at the school when many students were found lifeless which turned out to be caused by a cursed photo.

5. Corpse Party
Corpse Party is a survival horror RPG game that was first released in 1996 and adapted into a movie in 2015. This movie tells a high school student named Naomi, Satoshi, and her classmates on the last day of her school festival. They are trapped mysteriously in the Tenjin Elementary School building. A series of murders take place at the school and they try to find the mastermind behind this mysterious incident using a camera.
6. DreadOut
DreadOut is a survival horror game developed by an indie game developer from Indonesia, Digital Happiness. This game was released in 2015 and adapted to the big screen in 2019. The movie tells about a group of high school students who come to a haunted apartment to do live streaming and seek popularity. Who would have thought, they would have to deal with an otherworldly creature who lived there and attack them.
7. Slender Man
Slender Man is a survival horror game made by indie developer Parsec Productions that is played in the first person. Spawning many series, the Slender Man games have a plot that is more or less the same as each other, mainly escaping from the Slender Man figure, the same thing happens to the movie adaptation version released in 2018.
In the movie, four friends who live in a small town in Massachusetts try to summon and prove the truth behind the Slender Man legend. One of them later is found missing and when the other three try to find his best friend, they have to come back to face the Slender Man legend which is getting real overtime.
8. Forbidden Siren
The Forbidden Siren, or popularly known as Siren, is a game that was first released in 2003 and was adapted into a movie in 2006. This movie tells the story of a writer who moves to a remote island with his children. Arriving at their new home, their neighbors greeted them and told them about the most important prohibition on the island: don't go out when the sirens start to wail.
