One of the best game genres to play with friends, of course, is racing games. Competing against each other to get the first position in the last few seconds towards the finish line will always pump your adrenaline. Well, if you're looking for a new PC racing game, you don't actually have to dig deep into your pocket. Try inviting your friends to install the following nine free-to-play racing game titles on Steam.

1. Transformice

Your task in this MMO platformer is simple: quickly collect the cheese, bring it back to your hole, and level up your mouse to become a Shaman. If your mouse became a Shaman then you can use skills to create bridges and other tools to help yourself and your friends collect cheese -- or you can use those skills to create total chaos instead. A total of 670 were playing Transformice at the time of this writing.

2. Inertial Drift: Sunset Prologue

If you want to play free-to-play racing games with neon synthwave visuals and focus on drifting, then you should try Inertial Drift with its retro '90s style. Featuring a twin-stick control system for more precise drifting, this game is fun for new players to learn and remains challenging for racing game veterans.

3. Marbles on Stream

As the title suggests, in this game you and your friends will race as marbles. Not only the usual racing game mode, Marbles on Stream also provides a battle royale mode, Grand Prix, Tilted which lets you control the ball by tilting the map, and even Map Builder to create new maps and share them on the internet. There are 91 active players in this game.

4. Rekt: Crash Test

REKT! Crash Test is a free and more limited version of the paid title REKT! High Octane Stunts. Aside from just racing, you and three of your friends can compete in collecting high scores by performing various cool tricks with the jet-powered car of your choice.

5. DDraceNetwork

This cooperative racing game for up to 64 players invites you and your friends to not only navigate the map to the finish line, but also help them complete it. You can take advantage of the grappling hook and boost from the rocket launcher to increase movement speed as well. Like Marbles on Stream here you can create your own map. A total of 1,534 people were playing this game at the time of writing.

6. Stream Racer

Stream Racer, as the title suggests, is a free-to-play racing game designed for Twitch streamers. With the Twitch integration service, when you host a race and turn on a stream, viewers can instantly join your stream and join the race.

7. Super Totally Ultimate Dad Showdown

You could say it's an alternative to Fall Guys with much less player limits. You and three of your friends compete in silly races as cartoon dads. Although it doesn't support online multiplayer and only offline or split-screen, at least you can still play together via Steam's Remote Play Together feature.

8. FPV Drone Simulator

Ever wanted to try drone racing but didn't have (or want to) spend the money to buy or rent one? Well, you can try being a drone racer for free through this free-to-play racing title. Although a number of real-life drone racers feel the controls and physics are still not up to par, it is still a decent enough game to play.

9. KartRider: Drift

This MMO racing game made by Nexon has yet to be released when the article was written. However, KartRider is a free racing series with really fun arcade controls and gameplay not unlike CTR and Mario Kart, so you have to look forward to this title when it's scheduled to be released sometime in 2021.
