KOEI Tecmo Games announced during Tokyo Game Show 2021 that the Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires (Shin Sangoku Musou 8 Empires) will be released in Japan on December 23, 2021. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will also be available in Chinese. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

The PS5, PS4, and Switch versions of the game will get a 20th Anniversary Box that includes a book, character card sets for all 94 characters, and a two original soundtrack CD. Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC versions will only be available digitally. KOEI Tecmo Games will reveal the release information of Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires in English at a later date.

KOEI Tecmo America explains that Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires combines 1 vs 1,000 action in the style of Dynasty Warriors with the addition of strategic elements, including unit command. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires steers players through history to conquer ancient China with sword fighting and strategy.

Exciting siege battles allow commanders to deploy units to take control of strategic points on the map such as castles. Experiencing high-stakes combat in each mission, players can now control these central points on the battlefield through the use of fire attacks or other tactics, siege weapons, and more.

Sometimes, subjugation is carried out only by physical force as the commander executes strategy and attacks the enemy. Controlling troops by issuing important orders to units throughout the battle is the main attraction of this game. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will also have updates that include weapons, character edits, and more castles.

Like other "Empires" versions of the Dynasty Warriors franchise, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will include an improved edit function. KOEI Tecmo Games is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Dynasty Warriors franchise this year.

Fyi, Dynasty Warriors 9 (Shin Sangoku Musou 8), the newest game in the series, was launched in February 2018. This series has also inspired many spin-offs, including the Samurai Warriors series.
