In the modern era of gaming, developing games with the size and scale of conventional JRPGs gets increasingly expensive. It's no wonder that, recently, most JRPGs are being released on handheld devices rather than on consoles. A handheld device that is also the main target for many JRPG releases is the Nintendo Switch. The Switch has some of the best JRPGs ever released, which is a delight for fans of the handheld console. Here are some of the best JRPGs on Nintendo Switch. Without further ado, let's get into it.

1. Pokémon Legends: Arceus

This entry from the Pokemon series is set in the past, where players will explore a vast open world and start looking for and gathering Pokemon data for the first Pokedex entries before the inception of Pokemon training. Arceus updated every aspect of the standard Pokemon JRPG series to provide exactly what Pokemon fans were hoping for when the series came to the Switch. You will enjoy a fun adventure and encounter numerous wild Pokemon that exist in the earlier days.

2. Octopath Traveler

Made by Square Enix, this game proves that Turn-Based games can still compete in this day and age. Octopath Traveler tells the story of eight individuals who have unique skills in the pixelated world of Orsterra. Octopath Traveler features eight story campaigns, fantastic voice acting, and strategic battles. If you love the classic entries from the Final Fantasy series, the turn-based combat in this game is very reminiscent of those classic titles.

3. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition

Just like the earlier entries from the Xenoblade series, this game is an open-world RPG that requires you to complete main missions that drive the story but are presented in a world in which you're allowed to freely explore. Before this game, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was the first entry made available on the Switch in 2017. This game is a remastered project with some significant visual changes compared to the original title. This Switch JRPG is a charming game with an interesting storyline and exciting gameplay.

4. Tales of Vesperia: The Definitive Edition

Tales of Vesperia was first launched for the Xbox 360 in 2008. More than a decade since then, this game has finally been made available for the Nintendo Switch. This game, which is a remastered version of 2008's Tales of Vesperia, offers improved sound and visuals. The game tells the story of life in the world of Terca Lumireis where no one knows how far land and sea stretch. Humans live to fight monsters, and humans rely heavily on a tool called Blastia, which is a tool that can block monster attacks.

5. Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch

In this game, you will play as Oliver, a boy who starts a journey of his life to save his mother. If you are a fan of Studio Ghibli's visuals, then this game is certainly for you as Studio Ghibli also worked on the cutscenes for this game. This game has a parallel world that will take you on an adventure with Oliver, who was abandoned by his parents. Oliver actually comes from the real world and lives in a city called Motorville. His adventure began when he met a magical fairy named Mr. Drippy, who brought him into said parallel world.

6. Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout

The Atelier series has actually been around since the PlayStation era, but its popularity had not been that high on the platform. That was until finally the Atelier series returned with the release of Atelier Ryza, in which the story focuses on a teenage girl who dreams of becoming an adventurer. Not wanting to follow in the footsteps of her father and mother as farmers, Ryza always wants to get out of the island she has been living on most of her life so that she can learn more about the world. Her adventure begins when she meets and saves a girl named Klaudia and two other mysterious figures, Empel and Lila, who lead her on a thrilling adventure.

7. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3

Created by Falcom, this entry is arguably one of the best works that Falcom has ever made in terms of a JRPG. The eighth entry from the Trails franchise, this game may give the impression of a typical JRPG, but you will learn that this game has an amazing quality. It still has Rean Schwarzer as the main character, and takes place exactly one year after the conflict that occurred in the second game. Rean, who was still a student at that time, helped stop the rebellion. Rean was recognized as a great hero nicknamed Ashen Chevalier. In this game, you will follow Rean in his new job as a teacher at a new military school.

8. Dragon Quest Builders 2

This Switch JRPG is an action-RPG sandbox game developed by Square Enix and Omega Force. With the adorable chibi-style visuals, in this game, you'll be asked to complete a task of rebuilding the world against a dangerous group called the Children of Hargon. Unlike a simple sandbox game like Minecraft, this game has a narrative that becomes a source of strength for the adventure that you will go through. You will be a builder who builds and designs creations in this world using blocks.

9. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

After releasing the Final Fantasy XII for the PlayStation 2, Square Enix has now re-released the Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age with several changes, ranging from graphics to gameplay, making it an even better game. In terms of storyline, this game still focuses on the conflict between two kingdoms, namely the kingdoms of Dalmasca and Archadia. This game will be full of political conflicts and prolonged wars, one that ends with Dalmasca's defeat over Arcadia. Your job here is to help regain Dalmasca's independence from Arcadia.

10. Monster Hunter Rise

This game from Capcom features many unique and stunning wild animals and monsters for players to hunt. You can gather parts of the animal you slay to be crafted into weapons or armor. In this game, you'll be accompanied by a feline partner named Palamuter that you can ride on to explore the vast map in Monster Hunter Rise. You will play as a hunter who lives in Kamura Village and protects the village from potential disasters from evil monsters.
