The first Tales of game series was introduced in its first installment in 1995 with the title Tales of Phantasia. Because it succeeded in attracting JRPG fans, the Tales of series continues until Tales of Arise, which was recently released. So far, there have been 8 Tales of series that have been adapted into anime. What are those? Have a look!
1. Tales of Phantasia
Tales of Phantasia is the first Tales of video game released by Bandai (now Bandai Namco) in 1995 for PlayStation, GBA, SNES, PSP, and iOS. This series is also the first of Tales of to be adapted into an anime. This anime has 4 OVAs released in 2004-2006.
This anime focuses on Dhaos, Tree of Life, and the Elves. That said, those who just followed the Tales of Phantasia from the OVA without playing the game won't know the true ending. There are also certain dialogues that are only available in the OVA as well. It will be better if you watch the anime and play the game.
2. Tales of Eternia
Tales of Eternia is the second anime adaptation of the Tales of series. This anime has 13 episodes and was released in 2001. Although Tales of Eternia the anime has the same name, settings, and 4 main characters as the game, most of the story focuses on the original story.
The story may look interesting. Even so, it is highly recommended to finish the game first before watching the anime. This is because you might be confused by the story if you don't play the game and just follow the anime.
3. Tales of Symphonia
Just like Phantasia, Tales of Symphonia also only has an OVA anime. With a total of 11 episodes, the story presented in this OVA is the same as presented in the game. In other words, it doesn't matter if you don't play the game to find out the full story of the series.
Tales of Symphonia is a JRPG that was released for PS3 and GameCube. This game tells of a young man named Lloyd and his childhood friend, Colette. As "the Chosen", Colette must wander to become a goddess. Lloyd, who supports her, then accompanies her on a trip.
Later, they will learn what the world where the two live really is. The series is getting a remastered version which will be released for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on February 17, 2023.
4. Tales of the Abyss
Tales of the Abyss is an action RPG game developed by Namco Tales Studio as the 8th series of the Tales of. Released in 2005, Tales of the Abyss was released as the 10th anniversary of the Tales of series. This game was released for PS2 in 2005-2006. Then, this game was re-released for 3DS in 2011-2012.
Tales of the Abyss was adapted into an anime series and became one of the most popular Tales of installments. It doesn't matter if you don't play this game, because all the stories are told in the anime. You can also watch the full episode on the Tales of YouTube Channel.

5. Tales of Vesperia
Tales of Vesperia is the 10th series of Tales of which was developed and released by Namco Tales Studio in 2008 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. Yuri Lowell serves as the main character in this installment.
Similar to Tales of Eternia, the anime adaptation of Tales of Vesperia does not retell the events in the game. However, the one featured in the anime series is a prequel. It tells about Yuri's time with the Knights, as well as Flynn's childhood.
6. Tales of Zestiria
The anime adaptation of Tales of Zestiria tells the story of the events in the game although it is divided into two parts. Tales of Zestiria: Dawn of the Shepherd is the first part that tells about Sorey's beginnings as a Shepherd and his duty to save the world.
Meanwhile, Tales of Zestiria the X is the second part of the anime. In this anime, Alisha receives more spotlight, as if she is the main character. Interestingly, this anime also features two episodes of Tales of Berseria where Velvet tries to escape from prison.
7. Tales of Crestoria
Tales of Crestoria is one of the Tales of game series which only lasted a year even though the story presented is quite interesting. In December 2021, Bandai Namco announced that Tales of Crestoria was being adapted into a manga. The manga aimed to end its story that hasn't been completed since the game closed in February 2022.
There are 4 episodes that exist for Tales of Crestoria the anime. You can watch all of these episodes on the Tales of YouTube Channel. Tales of Crestoria -The Wake of Sin- ONA only tells the first chapter of the game. To see the ending, you can read the manga which might later be adapted into an anime.
8. Tales of Luminaria
Tales of Luminaria is the latest Tales of series released for Android and iOS. Unfortunately, this game didn't last long because it had to close the server for less than a year. Even though the story shown in this game is very interesting to us.
Tales of Luminaria was also adapted into an anime titled Tales of Luminaria: The Fateful Crossroad OVA. This episode focuses on the story of the Third Lunne Battle and features characters like Leo, Celia, and Lisette. Hugo's betrayal is also explained, in which the full story is also in the game.
