Great news for Spider-Verse fans! Gwen Stacy, also known as Ghost-Spider or Spider-Gwen, is officially joining Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in its second season. This announcement came directly from the series creator, Jeff Trammell, through a social media post that also revealed Gwen’s first look in the Disney+ animated series.

It’s still unclear whether Gwen in this series will be from another dimension, as in the comics. In Marvel Comics, Gwen recently settled on Earth-616 after leaving Earth-65 in Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider.

Meanwhile, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man takes place in an alternate universe that diverged from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after the events of Captain America: Civil War. In this reality, Peter Parker—voiced by Hudson Thames—was not mentored by Tony Stark but by Norman Osborn, portrayed by Colman Domingo.

The first season ended with Peter and his friends forming the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (W.E.B.), funded by Harry Osborn. Meanwhile, Norman Osborn, having lost Spider-Man as part of his Oscorp project, began experimenting with genetically engineered creatures, developing a prototype glider, and even discovering an alien symbiote fragment. All of this hints at Norman’s eventual transformation into Green Goblin, Spider-Man’s greatest enemy.

Trammell previously stated that taking the series out of the main MCU timeline allows for more creative freedom. “Removing it from the Sacred Timeline gives us more room to explore stories and characters,” he explained.

In addition to Gwen Stacy, Trammell also teased other characters that might appear in Season 2. Several characters confirmed to return from the first season include Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes), Doctor Octopus (Hugh Dancy), Scorpion (Jonathan Medina), and Chameleon (Roger Craig Smith).

Peter Parker will also continue to interact with characters from various Marvel backgrounds, such as Nico Minoru from Runaways (Grace Song), Pearl Pangan a.k.a. Wave (Cathy Ang), Lonnie Lincoln a.k.a. Tombstone (Eugene Byrd), and Amadeus Cho a.k.a. Brawn (Aleks Le).

Marvel Studios has become more selective in developing its TV projects to maintain quality and prevent audience fatigue.

With the arrival of Gwen Stacy, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Marvel series. The show has already been confirmed for a third season, so plenty of surprises are still in store.
