The game still revolves around Rikimaru and Ayame, two main protagonists since the first game, who are the best shinobi of the Azuma clan. They have been trained to be the best killer that the family ever has. In this game, they found themself trapped in the future and trying to find a way back to their time. But looking for a way back is not easy as hoped, because those ninjas must face Tenrai, who has the ambition to destroy the world by using the power of two jewels.

Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven is one of the installments to have a new playable character. The character is Tesshu Fujioka, a doctor by day and hired assassin by night. This character will be unlocked after you beat all Rikimaru and Ayame’s missions. This bald-headed assassin is very powerful, he can break the enemy’s bones by only using one hand and can penetrate the enemy’s body as well. He uses sharp needles as his weapon.
