Heralds of Galactus: Marvel Snap’s New Season Brings the Devourer’s Cosmic Envoys to the Game!
Galactus and the Heralds in Marvel
In the Marvel universe, Galactus is known as the Devourer of Worlds—a cosmic entity of immense power who roams the universe consuming the energy of planets. He doesn’t work alone; Galactus appoints Heralds, envoys granted the Power Cosmic, to seek out worlds worthy of consumption. Some of the most famous Heralds include Silver Surfer, Air-Walker, Firelord, Terrax the Tamer, and Nova (Frankie Raye).
Their arrival in Marvel Snap blends iconic Marvel lore with exciting new gameplay mechanics.
Season Pass: Galactus First Steps & Silver Surfer First Steps
This Season Pass takes inspiration from Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Players will gain access to two reward tracks—the Premium Season Pass and Super Premium Season Pass—featuring new card effects:
-
Premium Season Pass – Series 5: Galactus Fantastic 4 First Steps: End of Turn: +2 Power if you are winning at the Herald location.
-
Super Premium Season Pass – Series 4: Silver Surfer Fantastic 4 First Steps: End of Turn: If you are winning at a location with an On Reveal card, copy its text.
Both are designed to strengthen location control and trigger synergies in effect-based strategies.
New Cards: Heralds of Galactus Join the Decks
Galactus seems to be setting his sights on Earth, as nearly all of his Heralds are arriving as new cards. Some highlights include:
-
Stardust – Series 5 – Ongoing: Prevents adding cards to a location except by playing or moving them.
-
Frankie Raye Nova – Series 5: After you next play a 6-Cost card, double this card’s Power.
-
The Fallen One – Series 5 – On Reveal: Set Max Energy equal to this card’s Power.
-
Cosmic Ghost Rider – Series 5 – On Reveal: Remove the text from the front row enemy cards here.
-
Red Shift – Series 4 – On Reveal: Discard the leftmost card in your hand, then add a random card with the same Cost to your hand.
-
Terrax the Tamer – Series 4 – On Reveal: Add a Rock to the deck of the losing player at each location.
-
Firelord – Series 4 – On Reveal: Revive a discarded or destroyed 3-Cost card.
In addition, Air-Walker will debut in the limited-time High Voltage mode from August 21–28, 2025, before entering next season’s Seasonal Series 4 Packs.
Comparing Marvel Snap Card Powers to the Comics
The latest Heralds of Galactus – Fantastic 4 First Steps season brings a host of new cards inspired by Galactus’s cosmic envoys. Interestingly, beyond adding Heralds like Silver Surfer, Terrax, and Firelord, this season also introduces a new version of Galactus with a completely different mechanic from the existing card.
For Marvel fans, this is a chance to see how these towering cosmic powers from the comics are adapted into balanced effects for competitive play.
Galactus: Old vs. New
-
Old Galactus in Marvel Snap is known for its iconic effect: destroying the other two locations, leaving only one to play on—reflecting his comic role as the Devourer of Worlds.
-
Fantastic 4 First Steps Galactus has a new twist: End of Turn: +2 Power if winning at the Herald location. This represents his early strategic phase in the comics—sending Heralds to secure key areas before beginning the “devouring” process.
Silver Surfer Fantastic 4 First Steps
In the comics, Silver Surfer is the most famous Herald, capable of faster-than-light travel, matter manipulation, and planetary-scale energy control.
In Marvel Snap, his effect copies another card’s text at a specific location if the player is winning there—more about duplicating abilities than direct planetary devastation.
Stardust
In the comics, Stardust wields massive-scale matter and cosmic energy control.
In Snap, this becomes an Ongoing effect preventing card additions to a location, except by direct play or movement—turning vast cosmic destruction into precision location lockdown.
Frankie Raye / Nova
Comic version: wielder of cosmic fire capable of planetary destruction.
Game version: doubles her Power after playing a 6-Cost card—reducing planetary annihilation to a numbers boost.
The Fallen One
First Herald of Galactus, powered by dark energy rivaling other cosmic beings.
In Snap: sets Max Energy to match its Power—affecting resource economy more than cosmic combat.
Cosmic Ghost Rider
Comics: Frank Castle merged with Ghost Rider and the Power Cosmic—able to manipulate time, cosmic energy, and unleash the deadly Cosmic Penance Stare.
Snap: removes the text from opposing cards at its location—small-scale disruption compared to his comic feats.
Red Shift
Comics: armed with cosmic swords, manipulates gravity portals.
Snap: discards your leftmost card, replacing it with another of the same Cost—translating cosmic manipulation into hand resource swaps.
Terrax the Tamer
Comics: manipulates rock and earth on a planetary scale.
Snap: adds Rocks to the losing player’s deck at each location—keeping the stone theme but on a smaller scale.
Firelord
Comics: wields inextinguishable cosmic flames, capable of destroying fleets.
Snap: revives a discarded/destroyed 3-Cost card—a tiny echo of his eternal flame.
Air-Walker
Comics: interstellar travel without protection, cosmic energy projection, and high-powered space combat.
Snap: when destroyed, replaces itself with a 4-Cost card from your hand or deck—acting as a “bridge” to summon another force rather than a direct fighter.
The biggest difference between the comic and Snap versions is the scale of power. In the comics, the Heralds and Galactus operate on a cosmic level—destroying planets, manipulating limitless energy, and altering the galaxy’s balance. In the game, their effects are scaled down for balance in a competitive card game format.
Still, each character’s core identity remains intact—Terrax still works with rocks, Firelord still has a flame element, and Silver Surfer still supports allies. This adaptation lets players enjoy Marvel’s cosmic atmosphere while keeping gameplay strategic and competitive.
Pick Your Side: Join the Heralds or Stand Against Them
This season isn’t just about new cards—it’s a cosmic clash between those granted the Power Cosmic and those fighting to protect their worlds. Will you join the Heralds to aid the Devourer of Worlds, or build a deck to defeat him?
With new cards, locations, and modes, Heralds of Galactus is one of Marvel Snap’s most ambitious seasons yet. Prepare your best strategy—the fate of the universe, and your card collection, depends on it.
