The Dewa Kipas-GothamChess drama has become a talking point in Indonesia. Dewa Kipas, Dadang Subur’s game account, has been banned by Chess.com as he’s considered to have used a third-party app.
Meanwhile, Pak Dadang has claimed that he has never used any cheats at Chess.com. Despite his claim, Chess.com sticks to its system, which has detected that there are some indications that Dewa Kipas has indeed cheated.
Before we get into the reason why Dewa Kipas has been considered a cheater, let’s talk about how the system at Chess.com works.
Chess.com has seven personnel who work for the Fair Play team. These people are statistical scientists who check the details of accounts before deciding to ban them.
This team works independently regardless of reports from players or communities. So, the banning of Dewa Kipas was purely decided by the Fair Play team at Chess.com.
So, why is Dewa Kipas considered cheating by Chess.com? In case you haven’t heard, here are some of the indications.
1. More than 90% Accuracy (On Average)
The first indicator that makes Dewa Kipas considered cheating is his incredibly high average-accuracy. His moves were considered done by a bot as it’s not possible for a human being to reach that level of accuracy.
Dewa Kipas’ accuracy surpasses that of the top-level Indonesian chess player, Grandmaster Susanto Megaranto, with 94.4-95.3%. With these stats, it’s only natural that the anti-cheating team at Chess.com were suspicious of Dewa Kipas.
2. 27 Consecutive Wins After 2 Defeats
Another thing that indicates Dewa Kipas has been cheating is his winning streak after two defeats. GothamChess was suspicious as Dewa Kipas was having 27 consecutive wins after two defeats, in which he reached 35% and 8% accuracy.
The winning streak was certainly a factor that prompted Chess.com to make an action given that Dewa Kipas isn’t a professional player with a database to find out about his background.
3. Unusual, Flat-Line Graph

At chess.com, players have a graph that shows their game stats, which can be seen by the system. Normally, players have fluctuating graphs, resembling mountains and valleys. However, it’s not the case for Dewa Kipas. From February 22 to March 2, Dewa Kipas’ graph shows some abnormalities.
His graph resembles a flat line that reaches 99.5-100% accuracy.
“The graph is so unusual compare to those of the WGM/IM Irene Kharisma Sukandar and Susanto,” Hero Darmanto, the IT expert of PB Percasi, told Kompas.
So, those were some indicators that make Dewa Kipas considered a cheater. Stick around for more gaming info, and make sure to follow Dunia Games on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates.
