There are several weapons that we can upgrade to their MKII variants in GTA Online, which will have far better performances than their predecessors. After we upgraded these weapons to their MKII variants, we can also attach various kinds of bullets with their respective special effects on them.

But before they can be upgraded, we need to do some research in the Bunker to unlock those rounds. For MKII weapons rounds, there are a total of 11 types of rounds that we can use, and we can get those upgrades in service vehicles, such as the Terrorbyte, Mobile Operation Center, as well as an Avenger with a Weapon Workshop.

1. Extended Magazine

The most basic upgrade for any MKII weapon is Extended Magazine, which doubles the ammo capacity. This upgrade doubles almost every weapon’s ammo capacity from 30 rounds to 60 rounds. Except for the Heavy Sniper MKII, which only increased by two rounds, from six to eight rounds maximum.

2. Tracer Rounds

These rounds actually don’t yield any improvement on the damage output of the gun nor it yields any special effect. It only gives a different fire animation, and Tracer Rounds will give a firing effect that matches the color of your weapon.

Max ammo capacity: 360

3. Incendiary Rounds

Also known as fire rounds, Incendiary Rounds set your targets on fire after a couple of shots. However, targets in a vehicle won’t be burned by these rounds.

Max ammo capacity: 240

4. Hollow Points

These rounds increase damage over targets with no body armor. While it takes us 3-4 shots to kill an NPC with regular rounds, with Hollow Points, we only need 1-2 shots to get the job done.

Nevertheless, Hollow Points can only be applied to smaller weapons, such as Pistol, SNS Pistol, Heavy Revolver, and SMGs.

5. Armor Piercing

Quite the opposite to Hollow Points, Armor Piercing rounds are specifically designed to increase damage to NPCs/Players who wear body armor. In addition to that, Armor Piercing rounds can only be applied to bigger weapons, such as the Combat MG, Carbine Rifle, Heavy Sniper, and so on.

Armor Piercing rounds will come in handy for you in missions where you have to go up against NPCs who wear a full set of body armor, like in the Doomsday Heist.

6. Full Metal Jackets

The main purpose of Full Metal Jackets rounds is to penetrate bulletproof car windshields like the Armored Kuruma. While it takes us hundreds upon hundreds of bullets to penetrate an Armored Kuruma’s windshield, with Full Metal Jackets, we only need just a couple of rounds to actually hit the driver.

Max ammo capacity: 240

7. Explosive Rounds

The exceptional ammo for an MKII weapon, the Explosive Rounds can blow up an NPC’s car or helicopter with just one shot. It serves the same purpose as an RPG and Homing Launcher’s missile which also requires you to use a single shot to take down an NPC vehicle.

Nonetheless, it will take six shots of Explosive Rounds to destroy an Armored Kuruma. This is what separates them from RPGs, which only need one shot to destroy an Armored Kuruma.

8. Pump Shotgun MK II’s Shells

There’s an exception for the second variant of the Pump Shotgun, which has a different name for each type of ammo, although in general, they serve the same purposes as the other MKII weapons’ rounds:

• Dragon's Breath Shells = Incendiary Rounds
• Flechette Shells = Hollow Points
• Steel Buckshot Shells = Armor Piercing
• Explosive Slug Shells = Explosive Rounds
