6. Battlerite

A free-to-play MOBA that has potential and a loyal community. Unfortunately the developer Stunlock Studios prefers to focus on their battle royale spinoff title, Battlerite Royale, and making this game end up no longer being updated. Even so Battlerite was still played by 876 people in the last 24 hours. During its heyday, 45,145 active players played it simultaneously.

5. Blood of Steel

This game is made by Chinese developer YC Games and has a gameplay that is similar to Kingdom Under Fire compared to other MOBAs in general. You and your teammates pick a hero (that are inspired by historical figures and legends) then, once you all enter the game map, each hero will be followed by a group of soldiers who help you fight against the enemy team. This is a must try for those who miss Kingdom Under Fire or want to play a game that has colossal battles. In the last 24 hours there were around 1,233 people who played this game. The highest number of players only touched 2,203 so far.

4. Eternal Return: Black Survival

This anime-styled game combines elements from three different genres - battle royale, MOBA, and survival - into one pretty interesting package. To survive and defend yourself from opponents (both other players and AIs) you have to scavenge for materials and make equipment through the crafting system. Each character has access to different weapons and tools also. Eternal Return was played by 11,477 people yesterday, and 52,853 players were active at the same time at one point.

3. Paladins

The writer thinks this is one title that is already familiar to fans of free-to-play FPSes. With 5v5 gameplay and each character having their own ultimate like Overwatch, you could say this game is a combination of FPS and MOBA. Paladins’ population is still quite bustling, 14,821 active players were online in the last 24 hours and its peak got as many as 60,743 people.

2. SMITE

MOBA from Hi-Rez Studios -- who is the developer of Paladins as well. Last year this free-to-play MOBA title just collaborated with the cartoon series Avatar and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, adding additional skins into the game. SMITE has 19,400 active players with a peak number of players reaching 31,169 people.

1. Dota 2

As everyone expected, the most popular free-to-play MOBA title on Steam is Dota 2. Since its release in 2013, Dota 2 still successfully invited 599,292 active players in the last 24 hours. The highest number of active players ever recorded reached 1,295,114 people - almost rivaling the population of Palembang.
