UwU doesn’t have a particular meaning, yet it’s often used as an emoticon to express the user’s amusement over something that they find adorable. UwU is also often used to poke fun at someone by sending them a load of this emoticon.

UwU is commonly used in Japanese and Korean online culture, to respond to something they find kawaii.

UwU originates from Japan, where a lot of people tend to use emoticons to express their feelings. The UwU emoticon seems to come from the anime/manga culture -- which refers to moments where a character is feeling elated.

According to some sources, UwU originates from a fanfiction titled Genie of the Puzzle, back in 2005.

Ever since then, more and more people started to use UwU as an emoticon. Some might even say that UwU is an alternative to “:3”, which also depicts a happy face.
