Understanding the must-have item for EXP Laners in MLBB has become more crucial than ever. The role of the EXP Laner has significantly evolved—no longer just about holding a solo lane, but now taking on a vital role in teamfights.

While they still operate as solo laners in the early game, holding their lane during the first five minutes, EXP Laners have now taken on the responsibility of being the frontline—the tank of the team. With roamers increasingly favoring pick-off heroes, the one absorbing the brunt of teamfights has shifted to the EXP Lane.

This shift has required a total mindset change. After the early laning phase, EXP Laners often buy roam items, open up the map, and leave their lane to be farmed by the Jungler.

Itemization has become a key element of this transformation. Since EXP Laners are no longer just dueling, understanding the enemy's damage source has become more important than ever. Their job now? Soak up as much damage as possible.

R7 Reveals the Must-Have EXP Lane Item in MLBB

During a recent livestream, RRQ legend R7 shed light on the current EXP Lane itemization meta. And one thing is clear—he has strongly advised against buying Dominance Ice as an EXP Laner.

Since their job is to become the team’s frontline tank, the item choices have shifted. Instead of utility or aura items, EXP Laners now need raw survivability.

“Why is Dominance Ice bad for EXP now? Almost every pro player in MPL, or even in small tournaments, local ones—every EXP Laner has started building Antique Cuirass or Radiant Armor as their first item,” R7 explained.

“What’s the point? So they can tank Turtle fights—second, third Turtle—soak up all the enemy skills. Even if they get all-in’d, they won’t die easily. Especially if they bring Revitalize.”

“It benefits the whole team. It’s good for everyone. Especially if your roamer is a pick-off hero like Chou or Kalea. No need for them to tank—just let the EXP Laner do it,” he concluded.

This insight from R7 has perfectly captured the current EXP Lane philosophy: durability over utility. If you're still clinging to Dominance Ice as your go-to item, it might be time to adapt—your team’s success could depend on it.
