Gamers who were born in the 80s and 90s must’ve been introduced into the world of gaming with several old-school consoles, such as Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), SNES, Sega Genesis/Megadrive, Atari, and many more. Nowadays, those consoles are no longer produced and are quite hard to find in good, pristine condition. Thus, it’s not that surprising some of the collectors who still got these relics are able to sell them at insane prices. 

Recently, the old-school video game, Super Mario Bros, which was released for Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) broke the record of being the most expensive video game in the world from the previous holder, Stadium Events, as the game is sold at an auction for USD114,000 or around IDR 1.6 billion!

Previously, the classic video game by Nintendo was sold for USD100,000 or about IDR 1.4 billion. However, it was included in another auction held by Heritage Auction and was successfully sold again at an unbelievable price, making it the most expensive classic game of all time, replacing “Stadium Events”.

According to a tweet from Chris Kohler, a media journalist for The Verge, the unopened, sealed classic Super Mario Bros for NES was sold for USD114,000. Nevertheless, the identity of the buyer who brought home the rare and pristine copy of the classic Super Mario Bros is yet to be revealed. 

Aside from auctions, collectors usually look for rare video games in forums or on eBay. So, if you have some classic titles in your hands, take good care of them. Who knows, perhaps one day the price will soar and you’ll be rich in an instant.
