This news spread from various famous entertainment media in the States like The Hollywood Reporter, IGN, and Screenrant for the first time who reported that Leto is disappointed with Warner Bros’ decision who allows another actor to play the same character at the same time. This becomes worsened with Phoenix’s successful performance.
It looks like this is the peak of Leto’s disappointment to Warner Bros. Previously, on a few occasions, Leto openly stated his displeasure to his portrayal in Suicide Squad.
In the movie, which was released in 2016, his character only receives a total of 10 minutes of appearance. The additional time in the Extended Cut version also leads to another disappointment who feels his totality playing the Joker didn’t receive the same result.
Warner Bros is struggling to calm the situation by promising Leto a solo movie in the DCEU. But at the same time, Warner Bros allows the director Todd Phillips to produce a Joker solo movie that is located outside DCEU continuation.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that during the early staged of development. Warner Bros felt the Joker movie by Phillips would be a low budget movie due to the heavy theme it brought. At one point, Warner Bros even struggling to reduce Phillps’ to produce this movie by giving a small budget production cost.
But it turns out this Joker movie managed to become a box office in various countries, and so far, it had received a profit for more than $250 million from across the world. Also, Phoenix’s Joker received more positive responses from audiences compared to Leto’s Joker.
The broken relationship between Leto and Warner Bros are getting more comprehensive with his absence in the Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad 2.
