If you are a true anime fan, you will understand how almost every hero in anime has to go through a lot of training. This is also inseparable from the existence of their legendary teachers or mentors teachers who always support and pass their knowledge to the main hero. Usually, great anime teachers are the strongest in the series and feel responsible for caring for the heroes of the anime.

However, it is not uncommon for those under the mentorship of the teacher to become stronger than their teacher after much training. This can happen when the heroes of this anime are faced with obstacles that make them have to go beyond their limits and find ways to overcome the challenges that are in front of them. Here are some main hero characters who have powers that surpass their own teachers. Have a look!

Anime Characters Who Are Stronger Than Their Teachers

1. Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto)

The beginning of his appearance in the series might make him look hopeless, even Naruto was once called a 'stupid ninja' even though he indeed had a very high fighting spirit. Iruka was Naruto's mentor and father figure at the ninja academy and was the first person to believe in his abilities. He always taught Naruto to believe in himself and always try hard to achieve his goals.

Not just one person, but Naruto has other teachers like Kakashi, his sensei in Team 7 which consists of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. Then, there is Jiraiya, one of the Legendary Sannin who taught Naruto about the art of ninjutsu and helped him develop the Nine-Tails Chakra. Even though he was initially weak and incompetent, Naruto was able to prove himself to grow to be a better and more useful person even achieving his dream of becoming Hokage. He is even more powerful than his teacher because he can master complex jutsu that most of his colleagues don't even imagine, and this is what finally makes him recognized as the strongest ninja.

2. Izuku Midoriya (My Hero Academia)

Izuku Midoriya, who is familiarly called Deku, is originally just someone who wanted to be a hero but doesn’t have any Quirk in him at all. Even at the U.A. Academy, no one expected Deku to become a great hero. However, Deku managed to prove that he could outperform his mentor, All Might, in terms of strength, speed, and endurance. All Might's teaching method may be slightly different and sometimes difficult to understand, but in the end, it pushed Deku into a superhero who can help others as he is today and can prove himself to be better than his teacher.

3. Giyu Tomioka (Demon Slayer)

Giyu Tomioka is a student of Urokodaki who is a former Water Hashira. After that, Urokodaki becomes the mentor of Giyu, Tanjiro, and Sabito on their journey to become Demon Hunters. Giyu was able to prove that he was able to beat his teacher until he finally became a better Water Hashira than Urokodaki. He can even fight and survive some of the strongest enemies in the series like Akaza and Muzan. By taking all the knowledge he got from his teacher, he can continue to develop and surpass himself to become even stronger.

4. Yuji Itadori (Jujutsu Kaisen)

If you watch Jujutsu Kaisen from the beginning, you will know how Yuji finally got involved in the world of jujutsu magic after he swallowed Sukuna's cursed finger. But even though he was a nobody at first, he was able to adjust and live his new life full of optimism. He was a student under Gojo who managed to master cursed energy very quickly, achieving feats that few great jujutsu practitioners could dream of in Jujutsu Kaisen. Like beating Nanami's record as the record holder for the most black flashes. Yuji continues to outperform many from his mentors to seniors who have been practicing for a long time before him.

5. Natsu Dragneel (Fairy Tail)

Natsu grew up under the care of Igneel, the Fire Dragon King. It was from there that Natsu learned everything about fire magic. But when Natsu finally joined the Fairy Tail Guild, Igneel suddenly disappeared. Until fate brought them back together and Natsu was faced with the fact that his former mentor had become his worst enemy after joining Acnologia. Natsu managed to prove that he was able to surpass his teacher until he managed to beat him in a fierce match.

What do you think, do the anime hero characters above really prove themselves capable of surpassing their teachers or mentors? Or are there other anime characters that you think are better at defeating their teachers besides the list above?
