ONIC PH’s defeat marked the biggest upset in the early stage of MSC 2025. No one had expected one of the tournament favorites to be shut down by Aurora, a team from Turkey.

Aurora Turkey had always been considered a dark horse in international tournaments. But no one could have predicted that Rosa and his squad would have leveled up their performance so drastically in their MSC opener.

In addition to being led by their longtime coach Badgalseph, Aurora Turkey had also been reinforced by two seasoned Filipino coaches, Master The Basics and Dex Star, who had joined the team after Aurora PH failed to qualify for MSC.

This combination had significantly improved the team. Aurora showcased not only brilliant drafts, but also high-level mechanics and macro understanding throughout the match.

Why ONIC PH Lost

Several factors behind ONIC PH’s defeat had become apparent. First, they had clearly not anticipated just how overpowered Aurora’s jungler, Tienzy, would have been on his Lancelot in Game 1. Delivering more than 10 kills against ONIC PH was nothing short of a statement.

Aurora’s surprising decision to pick Ixia also proved pivotal. Conventional logic would have suggested Granger as the safer pick, but instead, Ixia had gone completely untouched during team fights and, by late game, had become nearly uncounterable. Unsurprisingly, Aurora secured the win in the first game.

ONIC PH had managed to bounce back in Game 2, though not without resistance. But it was in Game 3 where Aurora Turkey’s macro and micro gameplay truly shone. The coordination displayed between Selena, Gatotkaca, and Edith in the final teamfight was absolutely on point.

Rosa had perfectly placed traps to delay ONIC’s bottom lane clear, exposing any potential rotation. This brilliant wave control limited ONIC’s movement and visibility.

Then came the moment of brilliance—Gatotkaca and Edith landed their crowd control on Kelra’s Beatrix, while Rosa’s Abyssal Arrow connected with K1ngkong’s Lancelot. With that setup, Aurora closed out the series with a brilliant and decisive 2-1 victory.
