Many horror movies feature disturbing deaths that linger with audiences even after the movie is over. Some of these deaths are so gruesome because they come as a total shock as the death of Charlie from Hereditary.

In some cases, horror movies open with gruesome deaths to set the tone for the story like the Dani family in Midsommar. But on the other hand, there is something more cruel than that. Some of the most disturbing deaths in fiction come from the horror movie genre and we will discuss them one by one.

Kate – Fear Street 1994

Kate was one of the main protagonists in 1994's Fear Street and she was the one who realized that the group could stop the undead killers if Sam sacrificed himself. After being stabbed in the stomach, Kate is crushed in the head through a bread slicer in a horrific and shocking scene.

On her death, Redditor OakScuff said, "I don't think I would have expected her to die so brutally. I kept waiting for her to be rescued and it never happened." Since she is the main character in the movie, audiences still expect her to be saved until the very last moment.

Kate's brutal death took audiences by surprise, especially considering the movie developed a romance between her and Josh.

Ashley and Ashlyn – Final Destination 3

One of the best death scenes from Final Destination is Ashley and Ashlyn where they are burned alive by the tanning bed. Redditor Crusader1987 stated, "two girls were burned to death in bed for tanning, hence why I would never approach the equipment."

Final Destination movies often show simple but horrible events. Ashley and Ashlyn slowly burn to death as they scream in pain and the transition from their tanning bed to their coffin is the grisly finishing touch.

Billy – The Mist

The Mist ends with a very tragic scene when the main character kills his friends and his young son to save them from the creatures in the fog. However, the army then came to clear the fog and fight the terrible monsters.

Redditor old_mcfartigan says, "the boy at the end of the Mist" is the most disturbing death. David kills his young son to save him from an even worse fate so it is terrible to see this in vain. The final moments are tragic as David has no bullets left and is left pondering what he has done.

Beth – The Descent

Some of the characters from The Descent end up meeting a terrible ending at the hands of the terrible Crawlers. However, Beth's death is more protracted and disturbing. Redditor KelanYoung said, "She is one of the most likable characters. First, she was stabbed in the throat in a horrific accident. Then lasted long enough for her skull to be crushed in an act of mercy to save her from the Crawler. It was horrific."

Beth is accidentally stabbed in the neck by her friend, Juno, and then handed over to The Crawlers. She is eventually found by Sarah who agrees to end her suffering. This death is very disturbing.

Charlie – Hereditary

Hereditary is one of the scariest horror movies according to Reddit and a major factor in this is Charlie's death. Redditor Cynnric said, "It was the way her brother lay there, crushed and empty, while their mother found the body and started screaming. It was so horrific and left me lost."

Charlie's beheading appeared out of nowhere while her brother was trying to take her to the hospital and the next time her head had been beheaded by a telephone pole. The family reaction that followed was equally horrific and establishes Charlie's death as one of the most gruesome.

Olga – Suspiria

Olga's death in Suspiria is a strange scene in a movie. Talking about this, Redditor Fout99 said, "The whole sequence is brutal and horrific. It's so gross to watch." The characters are locked in the mirrored room as Susie performs the dance in the upstairs room.

Olga's body was somehow linked to Susie's and at that very instant, her joints began to twist and contort. Her death is brutal and the dismemberment between Olga's spinning body and Susie's dance makes it all the more confusing and gruesome to watch.

Jenny – Eden Lake

Jenny from Eden Lake was one of the best horror movie girls of the 2000s but sadly she didn't make it out alive. The last moments we see Jenny trapped in the bathroom with the villain of this movie. Redditor LiriStorm discussed the cruel nature of Jenny's death saying, "After everything she's been through, it ended up like that for her?" Her boyfriend dies early in the movie and she is forced to fight for survival.

The fact that the audience doesn't actually see anything after the bathroom door closes but hears Jenny's screams makes this even more disturbing as it makes them imagine what could have happened to her.
