Since the beginning of the One Piece story, Monkey D. Luffy has faced various kinds of opponents, ranging from those who were easily defeated to those that almost killed him. 1. Alvida

Alvida is Luffy's first opponent to appear in the first episode of One Piece. His iron fists are known to be dangerous and have killed off several pirates in East Blue. Alvida is also known for her cruel and bossy nature.

But he became a very easy opponent for Luffy. Alvida's attack couldn't hurt Luffy's rubber body at all. Luffy also made him bounce so far that Alvida's body became thin. Alvida who wants revenge eats the Sube Sube no Mi and joins Buggy's group.

2. Morgan

Morgan is a Marine who captured and tortured Zoro. Unable to defeat Zoro, he resorts to scheming by threatening the locals. Zoro was caught and his sword confiscated. Here Luffy saves Zoro and recruits him as the first nakama.

Luffy defeated Morgan quite easily. The guns fired by his men couldn't injure Luffy at all. Morgan was captured after being defeated by Luffy. He became the first Marine who was defeated by the Straw Hat captain.

3. Buggy

Even though Buggy is now a Yonkou for some reason, he used to be an opponent that Luffy has faced. Buggy at that time was relatively weak even though he had eaten the Bara Bara no Mi.

Luffy was able to defeat him quite easily by making half of his body bounce very far. It took Buggy a long time to find his body. From then on he started hunting down Luffy for revenge. Interestingly, Buggy instead teamed up with Luffy in Impel Down.

4. Kuro

Kuro is the captain of the Black Cat Pirates who lives in Syrup village, Usopp's birthplace. In this place too, Luffy recruited Usopp as his nakama. Kuro disguised himself for years to be able to kill Kaya and get his inheritance.

After his crimes were revealed, Luffy and company fought and defeated him. Kuro was captured and never seen again in the story until now.

5. Don Krieg

Don Krieg is a pirate from the Grand Line with famous tactics and many weapons. In the Baratie plot, he briefly messed up the Baratie and attacked Zeff and Sanji. Mihawk who accidentally passed by finished off his subordinates with one slash.

Luffy beats Krieg to sink into the sea. Until now Krieg has not been seen again in the story.

6. Arlong

Arlong is a fishman who rules the village of Kokoyashi, where Nami grew up. Arlong tricked Nami into giving him money for years. After realizing his rottenness, Luffy defeated Arlong and his subordinates. After that, Nami officially joined Luffy as the Straw Hat navigator.

7. Eric

Eric is one of the opponents faced by Luffy, even though he is present as an antagonist in filler episodes (non-canon). He hunts Dragonite for blood. Anyone who drinks Dragonite's blood is said to be immortal.

This Kama Kama no Mi eater can create wind blades from his nails. In the end Luffy was able to defeat him. Maybe he was killed because he couldn't swim.

8. Mr. 3

Mr. 3 is a member of Baroque Works whom Luffy and his friends met at Little Garden. The fruit-eater of the Doru Doru no Mi is a wax man who can turn his opponent into wax.

If Luffy hadn't defeated him, he would have turned Nami, Vivi, and Zoro into candles. After his defeat, Mr. 3 become food for crocodiles in Arabasta. But miraculously he survived and now joins the Buggy Pirates group.

9. Wapol

Wapol is the king of the Drum Kingdom who eliminates all doctors other than 20 doctors who serve himself. He is also obsessed with power, making him a ruthless king. Luffy and Chopper defeat him and return all the doctors that were previously in the place.

10. Crocodile

Crocodile was the first Shichibukai that Luffy defeated in Arabasta. He also became Luffy's first opponent to eat a Logia-type devil fruit. Luffy was almost killed by him. If at that time his life was not saved by Nico Robin, Luffy would have died. After this fight, Luffy's bounty increased to 100 million Belly.
