Dota 2 is one of the most popular PC MOBA of all time. But when smartphones became more accessible, the popularity of Dota 2 began to decline. Then a few years ago Mobile Legends Bang Bang was released, which became the number one MOBA mobile game to date.

However, Dota 2 and Mobile Legends cannot be compared with one perspective.

One of the reasons why people prefer Mobile Legends today may be due to Dota 2 system requirements. Because in order to play this MOBA game, you need a PC with decent specs. While Mobile Legends can run on entry-level smartphones. There are several reasons why you should stop comparing these two MOBA games, because the comparison is not apple-to-apple. 1. Different Platform

The main difference between these two MOBA games is the platform on which to play them. Dota 2 can only be played on PCs with medium to high specifications for maximum performance. Mobile Legends can actually also be played on a PC with an emulator, but the concept is intended for mobile devices according to the title.

It is this fundamental difference that makes them both different. So, it is not an apple-to-apple comparison.

2. Different Gameplay Mechanism

The first reason leads to the next reason, namely the difference in game mechanics. The difference in platform certainly makes the way the game is played different. There is no doubt that Dota 2 is much more difficult to play than the straightforward Mobile Legends. The mechanics of the two games are clearly different

Playing with the Mouse and Keyboard in Dota 2 and the simpler control with the smartphone touchscreen in Mobile Legends are clearly different. The game mechanism in Dota 2 is more complex because it is not a game that can be played whenever and wherever the players are. 3. Games from Different Times

Dota 2 has been popular since the early 2010s after being developed from the Warcraft III Frozen Throne mod. Most of the fans are older gamers, who have been playing since the first Dota era. While Mobile Legends only appeared in 2017.

The player generation is definitely different, where Mobile Legends is mostly played by minors. Because, this game is very easy to get and play from smartphones that are usually owned by minors. 4. Different Level of Mastery

The most often heard statement is that Dota 2 players will have an easier time mastering Mobile Legends. On the other hand, players who are proficient in Mobile Legends may not match the playstyle of Dota 2. This has been said by a Mobile Legends top global player named Sie Khang.

Sie Khang said that the adaptation of Dota 2 players to Mobile Legends was much easier. This is related to the mastery of Dota 2 heroes which is more complicated with the buttons on the keyboard. Likewise, the duration of the game, where the average Mobile Legends game lasted for 10 to 20 minutes, and the duration of a  Dota 2 match is twice longer.

5. Different Level of Popularity 

Since the game has increasingly gotten more popular, Mobile Legends international tournaments have been held more often. However, the tournament is only for certain regions, especially in Asia, although several times there are MLBB tournaments that are larger in scope. While the popularity of Dota 2 is more evenly distributed throughout the world, the scale of the tournament is also larger and the prizepool is always breaking records.

Everyone knows, The International is an esports tournament with the biggest prize pool of all time. In fact, Mobile Legends tournament is still unable to present a prize pool as large as The International.

6. Western vs Eastern Game Concept

The concept of the MOBA game presented in Dota 2 is more westernized, as can be seen from the character designs that look like characters from American comics. The impression of eastern culture is more shown in Mobile Legends, where the characters look like anime characters. Likewise, the lore presented between the two MOBA games from different cultures does not seem to be comparable because of the differences in the concepts of western and eastern pop culture.
