1. Easy, Simple, and Good Looking

As a pro player, participating in a photo session is a must, especially when they are going to play on esports tournaments, both online and offline. Their photographs are required for promotional and introduction purposes. Surely not all esports fans recognize all pro players’ faces, right?

Before you comment on why their favorite pose is folding arms, have you once place yourself as a pro player during the photo sessions? What pose that you will use; is it a formal pose? Wide smile pose? Salute pose? Or raising hands pose? If you are not getting used to it, surely you will get confused and awkward!

That’s the reason why folding arms comes as a neutral option. This one the easiest to do and the result is very sharp on the camera. The team logo will also look clearly because it usually placed right above the arms. But, do you know that the folding arms pose like this serves as a body language and has its psychological meaning?

2. The Psychology Behind Folding Arms

According to psychologists, when someone is folding their arms below the chest, that means they are in a defensive state and ready to accept every challenge from all opponents. If the pose conditioned with pro players' characteristics, surely it will be very suitable for them, moreover when they are going to enter an esports tournament.

Regardless of one’s quality and different teams, the folding arms will describe themselves as an optimistic individual/ team and how confident they are. This pose also can be used as a taunting pose to break down the opponent’s mind.

3. Current Esports Players’ Pose

From the previous two explanations, folding arms becomes a simple pose and looks like they’re ready to challenge their opponents. Because of two reasons above, many pro players who keep using it for the last few years - resulting in folding arms pose as their main staple and people getting bored of it.

As time goes by, the pro players’ pose slowly starts to be different. They are already seldom or no longer using folding arms pose. For example, take a look at the official profile photo of OG Dota 2 during TI9 last year above. N0tail, along with his teammate, were no longer using the familiar folding arms, but instead, they used funny and unique expressions.

Their pose surely looks ridiculous. But, if you take a closer look, this OG team pose looks like they’re looking down on other teams who posed seriously - moreover, they received victory with the meme material pose like that.

So that’s the reason why pro players often use folding arms as their pose during the photo session. There’s nothing wrong with their pose - either folding arms or not. The important thing is the pose must able to represent the core of the team.
