Bandai Namco Pictures has announced a new anime project based on Mine Yoshizaki's Keroro Gunso (Sgt. Frog) manga to celebrate the anime's 20th anniversary. The first episode of the Keroro Gunso anime premiered on April 3rd 2004. Although the format of the new anime has not been revealed, Bandai Namco Pictures has released promotional videos and visuals related to the project.

Crunchyroll has added this anime to their catalog starting in 2021, and they describe the anime as follows:

Keroro is a Frog Sergeant - the leader of an army of soldiers sent to conquer planet Earth. However, when these amphibious invaders learn that humans take great pleasure in dissecting their frog friends, the squad is scattered, the mission is canceled, and Keroro is left behind.

Now, this army that once prided itself on its strength spends more time on hiatus than using its weapons of war. It's far from the glory of battle, but at least she has her own room. Although the invasion has slowed down, Keroro still occasionally yearns to overcome his addiction to karaoke and regroup his army.

The anime series from Sunrise based on Mine Yoshizaki's Keroro Gunso manga ran from 2004 to 2011, and produced five feature movies. Funimation released two "seasons" of the anime on DVD, after ADV Films owned the license but did not release the anime.

Discotek acquired the anime license, and their Keroro Gunso release includes all 358 episodes in a Blu-ray Disc SD volume release sequential by season, beginning in 2021, with seasons 5-7 to be released this year.

American manga publisher Tokyopop released twenty volumes of this original manga in North America before closing its doors in 2011.
