News | 03 January
The first art exhibition for Tite Kubo's Bleach manga opened on the 9th floor of the Shibuya Hikarie building, Tokyo, Japan on December 18, 2021 and will run until January 16, 2022. This exhibition represents the latest look at Bleach as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. It contains a 76-page reproduction of the latest Bleach chapter, which was published in the magazine's combined issues 36 and 37 on August 10, 2021, as well as Kubo's comments and reflections on his artwork from the Bleach manga.
This exhibition is especially memorable to attend in person as visitors are shown two beautifully edited videos based on Kubo's illustrations of the impressive Bleach cast. The videos are presented with rock music performed by singer-songwriter Tatsuya Kitani, which perfectly captures Bleach's unique vibe.
The main body of the exhibition takes visitors through the manga's main arc. First of all, the first part of the exhibition begins with a poem. The first wall shows several panels representing some of Bleach's most memorable dialogues, which is the first indication that this exhibition represents not only Tite Kubo's artwork, but his overall artistic sensibilities.
This exhibition also shows that Kubo's musical inspiration is the focus of his work as well. In his comments, Kubo revealed how he has a music playlist for his character. A series of illustrations show the characters drawn in the style of a popular music album cover. Incidentally, one of the biggest musical inspirations for Bleach was the punk rock band Bad Religion.
The exhibition is also a publication for Tite Kubo's official fanclub, called Club Outside. Club members vote for their favorite characters and battles featured in the exhibition. Ichigo vs Ulquiorra fight gets the most votes. In addition, 100 members were invited to a live drawing and Q&A session with Tite Kubo to celebrate the opening of the exhibition. For his fanclub, Kubo continues to draw new artwork and releases rough sketches and design materials for the previously unpublished Bleach manga.
Even though the manga has ended, the future of the Bleach franchise will remain strong, with the "Thousand Year Blood War" anime arc set to debut in October 2022.
