The official website for the anime movie Kitaro Tanjo: Gegege no Nazo (Kitaro Birth: The Mystery of Gegege) recently released the latest trailer and visuals for the movie. This trailer reveals the main characters in Kitaro Tanjo: Gegege no Nazo.

Touko Yatabe (3rd final unit director of 2018's GeGeGe no Kitaro, assistant director of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time) will design the characters in Kitaro Tanjo: Gegege no Nazo.

Kitaro Tanjo: Gegege no Nazo is part of four "big projects" commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of Gegege no Kitaro. Mizuki died in 2015 at the age of 93. One of the other projects is the new anime Akuma Kun which will air on Netflix on November 9th 2023.

Mizuki's manga, which began in 1959 as Hakaba Kitaro, has spawned seven television series (including an anime Hakaba Kitaro), several animated movies, and two live action movies. The story centers on a child who is between the human world and the supernatural world.
